with reports indicating a significant gap between the number of available experts and the roles that need filling. However, this demand isn't uniform. The market is clearly bifurcating into two distinct tracks. On one side are the innovators working on foundational research, and on the other are the implementers applying existing technologies to solve business problems. Roles in this category include AI Application Engineers, ML Ops Specialists, Prompt Engineers, and Data Analysts who leverage AI tools. These positions are abundant in the IT services industry, corporate technology departments, and a wide range of sectors like banking, healthcare, and e-commerce that are racing to adopt AI solutions. Their skill set blends technical proficiency with crucial business domain knowledge.
The Chasm in Skills and Salaries
The division between these two tiers is most apparent in the required skills and resulting compensation. Tier 1 roles demand deep, specialized knowledge in complex fields like natural language processing, computer vision, and reinforcement learning.
