Dubai, a city synonymous with ambition and luxury, is about to add another jewel to its crown. Already known as the 'City of Gold', it's now planning to transform its famous gold trading hub into a spectacular tourist attraction.
A Golden Path for Tourists
Dubai is preparing to
unveil what is being billed as the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-carat gold. This new attraction is part of the Dubai Gold District in Deira, a historic trading area. The plan, announced by developer Ithra Dubai in early 2026, aims to create a unique experience allowing visitors and residents to stroll along a shimmering golden path. Officials have indicated that the walkway could be open to the public before the end of 2026, possibly within the next couple of months. While specific details about the walkway's exact length, construction cost, and the amount of gold to be used have not yet been made public, the intent is clear: to offer a dazzling new reason to visit the city.
More Than Just an Attraction
This glittering walkway is the centerpiece of a much larger strategy. The development is part of the newly launched Dubai Gold District, a purpose-built destination designed to consolidate the entire gold and jewellery industry in one place. This ecosystem includes over 1,000 retailers, wholesale traders, and space for bullion trading and investment. The district is already home to major jewellery brands popular with Indian consumers, such as Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas, and Tanishq Jewellery. By bringing together every part of the value chain, from raw gold to finished jewellery, the district aims to strengthen Dubai's position as a premier global hub for the precious metal.
Strengthening a Global Gold Hub
The project is about much more than tourism; it's a strategic business move. The UAE is already the world's second-largest physical gold trading destination, and this initiative aims to cement that status. The Dubai Gold District has reported significant growth even before the walkway's completion, with a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new jewellery and watch stores since the start of 2026. The district is undergoing expansion to meet the high demand from international companies looking to set up operations. By creating an integrated hub, Dubai makes it easier for traders, buyers, and tourists to connect, enhancing its appeal as a trusted and efficient marketplace for gold.
The 'Why' Behind the Glitter
This ambitious project aligns with Dubai's broader economic goals, particularly the 'D33' economic agenda, which aims to double the size of the city's economy in the next decade. By creating must-see attractions like the gold walkway, Dubai aims to boost its tourism numbers while simultaneously reinforcing its commercial sectors. Gold is deeply embedded in the region's culture and commerce, making the Gold District a natural extension of Dubai's identity. For a city known for building the world's tallest building and man-made islands, creating a street of gold is a characteristically bold statement designed to capture global attention and attract both visitors and investment.
