A New Era of Connectivity
The Ministry of Railways has officially approved the introduction of the Surat-Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express, a move that will significantly enhance the rail link between Gujarat and Rajasthan. This new semi-high-speed service marks an important milestone,
as it will be the first Vande Bharat train to originate from Surat, the nation's diamond and textile hub. The service is poised to replace the existing Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, extending the high-speed route and providing a direct connection for travellers from South Gujarat all the way to Udaipur. The launch is anticipated to take place before the Navratri festival, catering to the expected surge in festive travel.
A Faster Journey: Timings and Schedule
The new Vande Bharat service will slash the travel time between the two cities to just seven and a half hours. The train will operate six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. Train number 26903 is scheduled to depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and arrive in Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey, train number 26904 will leave Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. This convenient schedule provides a full day for business or leisure in Udaipur before the evening departure.
Route and Key Stoppages
Covering a distance of approximately 690 kilometres, the train is set to provide a vital connection between key commercial and tourist destinations. The service will have nine designated commercial stops between Surat and Udaipur City, ensuring wide-ranging accessibility. The planned halts are at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar. This route structure offers a direct and faster travel option for passengers across several important towns in both Gujarat and southern Rajasthan.
Fares and Booking Information
While final fares will be confirmed when bookings open on the IRCTC platform, initial estimates suggest prices will be in line with other Vande Bharat services. Based on similar routes, the fare for the AC Chair Car is expected to be in the range of ₹1,400 to ₹1,800, while the Executive Chair Car could be priced between ₹2,600 and ₹3,200. These prices are subject to dynamic pricing and will include catering charges. Travellers are advised to watch for the official announcement and the opening of bookings for train numbers 26903 and 26904 ahead of the festive season.
The Onboard Vande Bharat Experience
Passengers on the new eight-coach train can expect the modern amenities that have made Vande Bharat services popular across the country. The fully air-conditioned coaches feature ergonomically designed reclining seats, providing ample legroom for a comfortable journey. Onboard facilities typically include Wi-Fi, a GPS-based passenger information system, and clean, bio-vacuum washrooms. Catering services provide meals, snacks, and beverages directly to your seat, with costs generally included in the ticket fare. The train's design focuses on providing a smooth and quiet travel experience, with sealed gangways that reduce external noise and dust.
A Boost for Tourism and Trade
The introduction of this service is expected to provide a significant impetus to both tourism and trade. For tourists from Surat and South Gujarat, it offers a faster and more convenient way to visit Udaipur, a major global tourist destination renowned for its lakes and palaces. Simultaneously, it will facilitate easier travel for business people from the Mewar region to the commercial centers of Gujarat. Officials have highlighted that this improved connectivity will strengthen social and economic ties between the two regions, benefiting everyone from holidaymakers to traders.
