Verify Your Eligibility
Before you begin, the first step is to confirm you meet the essential criteria. For the Scientist/Engineer 'SC' position, ISRO typically requires a B.E./B.Tech degree in specific disciplines like Electronics, Mechanical, or Computer Science. Candidates
must have secured a minimum of 65% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. The upper age limit is generally 28 years for unreserved categories, with relaxations for SC/ST and OBC candidates as per government norms. Importantly, only Indian nationals are eligible to apply. Some recruitment cycles are based on GATE scores, requiring a valid score from the current or previous year, while others involve a dedicated written test.
Gather Your Documents
A smooth application process requires having all your documents ready. You will need scanned copies of a recent passport-sized photograph and your signature, both in the specified format and size. Keep your educational certificates handy, including mark sheets for all semesters of your B.E./B.Tech degree. If you are applying under a reserved category (like EWS, OBC, SC/ST), ensure your certificate is in the prescribed format and readily available for upload. Finally, have a valid photo ID, such as an Aadhaar card or passport, for verification purposes.
Navigate the Online Application
All applications must be submitted online through the official ISRO website, www.isro.gov.in. Navigate to the 'Careers' section to find the current recruitment advertisement. You'll need to register on the portal with a valid email address and mobile number, which will generate a registration number to be saved for future reference. Fill out the application form with precise personal and educational details. After uploading the required documents, proceed to pay the application fee online, unless you belong to an exempted category like women, SC/ST, or PwBD candidates. Always review your application thoroughly before final submission.
Understand the Selection Process
The selection for a Scientist/Engineer post is a multi-stage process designed to identify the best talent. For recruitments based on GATE, candidates are first shortlisted based on their scores, typically in a 1:7 ratio for the available vacancies. For other recruitment drives, a written test is the first stage. This test usually consists of two parts: one focusing on your core engineering discipline and another on general aptitude. Candidates who clear the initial screening (either GATE score-based or written test) are then called for a personal interview. The final selection is often based on a 50% weightage to the screening score (GATE or written test) and 50% to the interview performance.
Prepare for the Interview
The interview is a critical final step. A panel assesses your technical knowledge, understanding of your core subjects, and general awareness. Beyond technical expertise, they also evaluate your communication skills and academic achievements. Candidates currently employed with government or public sector undertakings must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at this stage. The interview carries a weight of 100 marks, and performing well here is crucial for making it to the final merit list. Following the interview, the process concludes with document verification and a final medical examination for the selected candidates.
