These platforms are designed to integrate with the applicant tracking systems (ATS) widely used in India, such as Darwinbox and Keka. They also offer crucial support for regional languages and are built to comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023, which governs the use of candidate data. This localization makes AI tools more accessible and effective for Indian companies navigating a diverse talent pool spread across Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3 cities.
The Double-Edged Sword: Bias and Fairness
While AI offers unprecedented efficiency, it also introduces significant challenges, chief among them being algorithmic bias. If an AI is trained on historical hiring data that contains human biases, it can learn and even amplify those prejudices at scale. For example, an algorithm might penalize female candidates for career breaks or favour applicants from elite institutions, inadvertently filtering out diverse and qualified talent. This has become a critical concern, as flawed AI systems can disproportionately reject candidates from women and marginalized groups. There is currently no specific legal framework in India to hold employers accountable for algorithmic bias, making it crucial for companies to proactively audit their systems and ensure human oversight remains a key part of the process.
