Mettupalayam is about 35 kilometres from Coimbatore and can be reached by a short train ride or taxi. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway passenger train (Train No. 56136) departs from Mettupalayam at 7:10 AM. This timing works well, as you can arrive in Coimbatore the previous evening, rest for the night, and make your way to Mettupalayam early the next morning to catch the historic train. The toy train will have you in the heart of Ooty by noon, ready to explore the charming hill station.
