Dates, Timings, and Booking
Amrit Udyan has opened for its Summer Annuals edition, welcoming visitors from August 16 to September 15, 2026. The gardens are open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry permitted at 5:00 PM. It's important to note that the gardens remain closed
every Monday for maintenance. Entry is free for all, but securing a slot requires mandatory advance online booking through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. There are no on-the-spot booking facilities available. Bookings for any given day close at 10:00 AM the previous day, so planning ahead is essential to avoid disappointment.
Getting There and Entry
The designated entry and exit point for all visitors is Gate No. 35 on North Avenue Road. To make the journey smoother, a free shuttle bus service is available from Gate No. 4 of the Central Secretariat Metro Station. These shuttles run every 30 minutes between 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM, providing a convenient link for those using public transport. If you're arriving by metro, Central Secretariat, which is on the Yellow and Violet lines, is the nearest station. Upon arrival, be prepared to show your digital visitor pass on your mobile phone along with a government-issued photo ID.
What to See in the Monsoon
The monsoon season offers a unique perspective on Amrit Udyan's 15 acres. This edition highlights indigenous and native flowering plants celebrated for their vibrant colours and resilience. Look out for species like Gul-Mehndi, Aparajita, and Rukmini. Key attractions open to visitors include the Central Lawn, the Bonsai Garden, and the serene Circular Garden. A new highlight is the Babbling Brook, a peaceful retreat with a meandering stream and reflecting pool. For younger visitors, Bal Vatika offers a dedicated children's area with a treehouse and Nature's Classroom, centred around a historic 225-year-old Sheesham tree.
Dressing for a Rainy Day
A rainy-day visit requires some practical preparation. Comfortable, non-slip footwear is a must, as the garden paths can become slippery when wet. Lightweight, quick-drying clothes are advisable. The good news is that umbrellas are permitted inside the gardens, so you can stay dry while exploring. However, keep in mind that larger items like backpacks and cameras are not allowed. You can carry a wallet, purse, or a small handbag. For parents with infants, milk bottles are also permitted.
Facilities and What Not to Bring
Visitor comfort is well-catered for along the designated route. You will find drinking water stalls, restrooms, and first-aid posts. Crucially for a monsoon trip, rain shelters are also available at various points to wait out any heavy downpours. A food court is available for refreshments and souvenirs. Prohibited items are strictly enforced and include all eatables, tobacco products, backpacks, and professional cameras or video cameras. Only mobile phones are allowed for photography. Following these rules ensures a smooth entry and a pleasant visit for everyone.
