Overview of Available Positions
The current recruitment drive is primarily focused on filling the position of Scientist/Engineer 'SC'. This is a highly sought-after, entry-level Group 'A' gazetted post. The openings are spread across various disciplines, including Electronics, Mechanical,
and Computer Science. These roles are integral to ISRO's ambitious missions, offering a chance to contribute to cutting-edge projects in space exploration, satellite technology, and launch vehicle development. Selected candidates will be posted at one of the several ISRO centres or units located across India, such as the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram, the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru, or the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota.
Salary and Benefits
Candidates selected for the Scientist/Engineer 'SC' position will be appointed in Level 10 of the pay matrix. The basic pay starts at ₹56,100 per month. In addition to the basic salary, employees are entitled to a comprehensive benefits package. This includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance, as per government regulations. The gross emoluments at the time of joining are highly competitive. Furthermore, ISRO employees receive medical facilities for themselves and their dependents, subsidized canteen services, and leave travel concessions. The organisation is also known for its focus on professional development, offering ample opportunities for higher studies and skill enhancement.
Educational Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Scientist/Engineer 'SC' post, candidates must possess a B.E., B.Tech, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline from a recognised university or institution. The required disciplines are specified in the official notification and typically include Electronics & Communication, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science. A critical requirement is the academic performance of the candidate. Applicants must have secured a minimum aggregate of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. This requirement is a standard benchmark used by ISRO to ensure a high calibre of applicants. Candidates in the final year of their degree are often eligible to apply, provided they can produce their final degree certificate by a specified date.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The maximum age limit for applicants is generally 28 years as of the application closing date. However, the Government of India's reservation policies provide for age relaxations for candidates belonging to various categories. For candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, making it 33 years. For those belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, there is a relaxation of 3 years, taking the maximum age to 31 years. Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD) are also eligible for age relaxation as per the prevailing government orders. Aspirants must check the specific notification for detailed rules on age eligibility.
The Selection Procedure
ISRO follows a two-stage selection process for these roles. The initial screening is conducted through a written test, which is held at various centres across India. The test is designed to assess the candidate's understanding of their specific engineering discipline. The syllabus for the written test is typically based on the curriculum of the qualifying degree. Based on their performance in the written test, candidates are shortlisted for the second stage, which is a personal interview. The final selection is based solely on the marks obtained in the interview. For some specific recruitment drives, ISRO also uses valid GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores for shortlisting candidates directly for the interview, bypassing the written test.
How to Apply and Key Dates
The application process is entirely online. Interested and eligible candidates must visit the official ISRO careers portal to submit their application. The process involves one-time registration, filling in personal and academic details, and uploading scanned copies of necessary documents like photographs and signatures. An application fee is typically required, which is payable online. However, all women candidates, along with SC/ST, Ex-servicemen, and PWBD candidates, are usually exempted from paying the fee. It is crucial to keep an eye on the dates. Online registration for this drive commenced in early August 2026, and the deadline to submit the online application is September 5, 2026. Candidates are advised to apply well in advance to avoid any last-minute technical issues.
