The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a pilot programme that covers the entire cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This initiative is designed to boost tourism from India, which is one of Abu Dhabi's
most important international markets. The programme is valid for travel between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. During this three-month period, the scheme will support up to 20,000 visas, potentially saving Indian travellers a significant amount in total costs. The standard cost for the visa, which is being covered by DCT Abu Dhabi, is approximately Dh285. This is not a visa-on-arrival or visa-free travel scheme; rather, it is a subsidy that covers the visa fee when booked as part of a specific holiday package.
Who is Eligible for the Free Visa?
This offer is specifically targeted and has clear conditions. To qualify, travellers must be Indian passport holders departing from India. The core requirement is the booking of a holiday package through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. This package must include a minimum of three consecutive nights' stay in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a confirmed return flight from India. It is crucial to note that this benefit cannot be claimed independently. Travellers who book flights or hotels separately or who do not use a participating travel agent will not be eligible for the visa fee waiver and will have to pay the standard visa application costs.
How to Avail the Offer
The process is streamlined through travel providers. The first step is to contact a participating travel partner, such as Akbar Travels, or an approved online travel agency that is part of the DCT Abu Dhabi initiative. When booking your qualifying holiday package—which includes at least three nights in Abu Dhabi and return flights—the travel partner will handle the visa application process. They have two ways to manage this: either work with a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, where the visa cost is covered directly, or use their own partner DMCs and receive a reimbursement for the fee. For the traveller, this means the visa cost is simply removed from the total package price, making the booking process seamless.
Making the Most of Your Abu Dhabi Stay
With the visa cost covered and a minimum of three nights required, visitors have a great opportunity to explore the emirate. A three or four-day itinerary allows ample time to experience Abu Dhabi's diverse attractions. You could spend a day immersing yourself in art and culture at the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, followed by an evening exploring the vibrant waterfront. Another day could be dedicated to the thrilling theme parks on Yas Island, such as Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World. No trip is complete without a visit to the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, an architectural marvel. Other Visa Options for Indian Travellers
It's worth noting that this new scheme is separate from other existing visa options for Indian citizens. For those transiting through Abu Dhabi with airlines like Etihad, a 48-hour transit visa is often available for free, provided you have a layover of at least eight hours and are travelling to a third country. Additionally, Indian passport holders with a valid visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, or EU may be eligible for a 14-day visa-on-arrival, though fees apply for this service. The new programme specifically targets tourists planning a dedicated holiday in Abu Dhabi, rather than those just passing through.
