Understanding the New Visa Offer
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has rolled out a pilot program that covers the full UAE entry visa fee for eligible Indian passport holders. This is not a visa-free travel arrangement, but rather a tourism promotion where
the cost of the visa is paid for by Abu Dhabi's tourism authority. The initiative is designed to make the emirate a more attractive and budget-friendly destination for visitors from India, one of its key international markets. The program is available for a limited time, running from August 1 to October 31, 2026. It is also capped, with the pilot period set to support up to 20,000 visas.
Who Exactly Is Eligible?
The key to this offer lies in the word "eligible." The free visa is not available to every Indian tourist. To qualify, travellers must meet a specific set of conditions. Firstly, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. Secondly, the entire trip must be booked as a package through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. Independent applications or bookings will not qualify. This is a crucial detail; you cannot book a flight and hotel separately and then apply for the free visa.
The Mandatory Booking Requirements
The holiday package itself has two main requirements to be eligible for the visa fee waiver. The booking must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights at a hotel in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the package must include a return flight from India. Bookings that only include a flight or only a hotel stay do not meet the criteria for this promotion. Families and groups, in particular, may find significant savings under this scheme, as the typical 30-day UAE tourist visa can cost around ₹6,500 per person.
How to Apply and Get the Waiver
The process is handled entirely through the travel agency you book with. Travellers should not attempt to apply for the visa independently. When you book a qualifying holiday package, the participating travel partner will process the visa application on your behalf. These partners work with a Destination Management Company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the visa cost directly. Alternatively, if a travel partner uses their own DMC, DCT Abu Dhabi will reimburse them approximately AED 285 for each visa issued under the program. Your primary step as a traveller is to find a participating agency and confirm that your intended package qualifies for the visa cost waiver before you complete the booking.
What This Means for Your Travel Plans
This initiative significantly lowers the upfront cost of an Abu Dhabi holiday. With the visa fee covered, travellers can allocate more of their budget towards experiences, dining, and exploring the emirate's attractions. It is important to remember that this is a separate initiative from other UAE visa rules, such as the visa-on-arrival facility for Indian citizens who hold a valid US visa or Green Card. This promotional offer is tied directly to booking a specific type of holiday package and is designed to encourage longer stays in the capital. Given that the offer is for a limited time and has a cap on the number of visas, those interested should act promptly to take advantage of the savings.
