for Vietnam's e-visa, a change that has simplified travel planning immensely. The entire process is completed online through an official government portal, eliminating the need for embassy visits or mailing passports. Applicants can secure a 90-day, multiple-entry visa for a fee of around $50 (or $25 for single entry), with a typical processing time of just three to five working days. This hassle-free system is a stark contrast to more demanding visa procedures for other countries and is frequently cited as a primary reason for the country's surging popularity among Indian families and solo travellers alike.
A Boom in Direct Flights
Getting to Vietnam from India used to involve long layovers and complicated itineraries. That has changed dramatically. A significant expansion in air connectivity has played a pivotal role in the tourism boom. Major Indian carriers like Air India and IndiGo, alongside Vietnamese airlines like VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines, have launched numerous direct routes connecting major Indian hubs—including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad—with Vietnamese cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. For example, Air India recently launched a direct service from Delhi to Hanoi in May 2026, adding thousands of seats per month on this popular route. These direct flights, which typically last between four to five and a half hours, not only save significant travel time but also make airfares more competitive, bringing a Vietnamese holiday well within budget for many Indians.
A Remarkable Surge in Arrivals
The numbers confirm the trend: Indian tourists are flocking to Vietnam in unprecedented numbers. In the first two months of 2026 alone, Vietnam welcomed approximately 158,000 visitors from India, a year-on-year increase of over 70%. This builds on the momentum from previous years, where visitor numbers have consistently grown, far outpacing pre-pandemic levels. By the end of April 2026, Indian arrivals had jumped by nearly 60% compared to the same period in the previous year. This makes India one of Vietnam's fastest-growing tourism markets. Travel agencies and tourism boards attribute this directly to the dual impact of simplified visas and better flight access, which have together unlocked a massive wave of interest.
More Than Just Convenience
While easy logistics get travellers in the door, it is the destination itself that creates fans. Vietnam offers an incredible diversity of experiences that deeply resonate with Indian tourists. A key factor is affordability, with many finding they can enjoy luxury hotels, fine dining, and extensive sightseeing for significantly less than in other popular international destinations.
