On a cloudy day, you might need to extend that time to 15-30 minutes, because even thick cloud cover allows enough of the right kind of light to pass through to be effective. The goal is simply to ensure your eyes receive a sufficient dose of bright, natural light to send that unambiguous 'wake up' call to your brain. This simple act has been linked not just to better sleep, but also to improved mood, heightened focus, and even a stronger immune system.
Your Simple Morning Ritual
Incorporating this into your life is incredibly simple. The key is to do it within the first hour of waking up. Step outside for 5-10 minutes. You don't need to stare directly at the sun; in fact, you shouldn't. Simply face in its general direction and let the ambient light do the work.
