Upgrading a Critical Rail Corridor
The disruptions are the result of large-scale yard remodelling and non-interlocking work being carried out to connect a new third railway line between Bina station of West Central Railway and Agasod station of North Central Railway. This essential infrastructure
upgrade is designed to increase the capacity of this busy corridor, which is a critical link for services between North and South India. According to railway officials, the project will ultimately lead to more efficient train operations, reduce congestion, and improve the punctuality and reliability of services passing through the region. While causing temporary inconvenience, the work is a crucial step towards modernising the network to handle increasing rail traffic.
Key Dates and Affected Routes
The engineering work is being executed in phases, with the most significant impact on long-distance services scheduled for the first half of October 2026. The diversions for the 17 specified trains will occur on various dates between October 1 and October 15. The alternate routes will redirect trains via other major junctions, including Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Guna, and Kota, depending on the service. Passengers with bookings on these trains are strongly advised to check the updated schedule and route before commencing their journey, as travel times and intermediate stops will change.
Rewanchal and Jabalpur-Veraval Expresses
Among the prominent trains affected are the Rewanchal Express services. From October 8 to 14, Train No. 12185 (Rewa-Rani Kamalapati) and Train No. 12186 (Rani Kamalapati-Rewa) will be diverted to run via Katni, Jabalpur, and Itarsi Junction. Similarly, the Jabalpur-Veraval corridor will see changes. Train No. 11466 (Jabalpur-Veraval) will be diverted via the Itarsi-Bhopal route on October 9 and 12, while its counterpart, Train No. 11465 (Veraval-Jabalpur), will follow the same diverted path on October 10 and 12.
New Routes for Bhopal-Jodhpur Services
Services connecting Bhopal and Jodhpur will see one of the longest diversion periods. From October 1 to 15, Train No. 14814 (Bhopal-Jodhpur) will run on an alternate route via Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Maksi Junction, Nagda, and Kota. In the return direction, Train No. 14813 (Jodhpur-Bhopal) will follow this same diverted route from October 1 to 14. Passengers travelling between these cities during the first two weeks of October should take special note of this significant route modification.
Rewa-Dr Ambedkar Nagar and Gondwana Express
The tri-weekly express between Rewa and Dr Ambedkar Nagar is also on the diversion list. Train No. 11703 will be rerouted via Bina Malkhedi, Mahadevkhedi, Guna, Ruthiyai, and Maksi on October 8, 11, and 13. The return service, Train No. 11704, will use the same diverted path on October 9, 12, and 14. Additionally, the popular Gondwana Express will face a one-day diversion. On October 8, Train No. 22181 (Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin) will run via Katni Junction, Ohan, and Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi station.
Eastern Connections Also Rerouted
Several services connecting to destinations in the east will also bypass the Bina-Agasod section. The Bhopal-Dhanbad Tri-Weekly Express (Train No. 11631/11632) and the Bhopal-Singrauli Express (Train No. 22165) will be diverted via Itarsi, Jabalpur, and Katni South on specific dates between October 9 and 15. The weekly Howrah-Bhopal Express (Train No. 13025/13026) and the Bhopal-Chopan Weekly Express (Train No. 11633/11634) will also follow a similar diverted route via the Itarsi-Jabalpur-Katni section on their scheduled run dates during this period.
