What is the New 'Package Visa' System?
Saudi Arabia has launched an innovative 'Package Visa' service specifically designed to simplify travel for several key markets, including India. This new system allows Indian passport holders to obtain a tourist e-visa as part of a single, integrated
online transaction when booking a travel package. Instead of applying for a visa separately through an embassy or consulate, the visa is issued automatically and electronically upon the purchase of a complete trip—including flights and hotels—from an approved travel provider. This pilot program is a pivotal part of Saudi Arabia's strategy to make the Kingdom more accessible to international visitors and reduce administrative hurdles for tourists.
How to Apply Through Integrated Bookings
The process is designed for digital convenience. First, travellers must use one of the officially approved online travel platforms, which currently include Reserval, Almosafer, and Webook. On these sites, you can either select a pre-designed holiday package or customize your own itinerary by choosing flights and accommodation. During the booking process, you will be prompted to upload your passport details and a personal photograph. After completing the payment for the entire package, your information undergoes an automated verification check. Once approved, the electronic tourist visa is delivered directly to your email, often within 24 to 48 hours.
Eligibility and Key Requirements
This Package Visa service is currently available to citizens of seven countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Indonesia. This route provides a direct electronic pathway for Indian nationals who may not be eligible for other fast-track options, such as the visa-on-arrival that typically requires holding a valid US, UK, or Schengen visa. To qualify for the package, the booking must include a confirmed round-trip flight and accommodation at a Ministry-licensed hotel with at least a four-star rating. The trip duration must be between two and 88 days, and bookings must be made at least 48 hours before departure.
What the E-Visa Includes
The tourist visa obtained through this new system allows for a range of activities, including leisure, visiting family and friends, attending events, and performing Umrah (outside of the Hajj season). The standard tourist e-visa is typically valid for multiple entries over one year, allowing for stays of up to 90 days at a time. However, some providers on the new package platform may issue a single-entry visa tied specifically to the dates of your booked trip. It is crucial for travellers to check the specific terms of the visa issued with their package. Mandatory health insurance for the duration of the stay is automatically included as part of the visa and package cost.
A Key Part of Saudi's Vision 2030
This streamlined visa process is a strategic move within Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify the nation's economy and establish it as a global tourism hub. The Kingdom has set a goal of attracting 150 million tourists annually by 2030. India is a top-priority market in this vision, with the Saudi Tourism Authority aiming to welcome 7.5 million Indian visitors per year by that deadline. By simplifying entry procedures, Saudi Arabia is actively courting the rapidly growing Indian outbound travel market, which is known for its interest in cultural, religious, and leisure travel. This initiative, along with increased flight connectivity, signals a strong commitment to making the Kingdom a preferred destination for Indian holidaymakers.
