Western & Central Railways Lead the Initiative
Western Railway has been prominent in these announcements, extending the trips of several special trains to run through November 2026. These extensions primarily focus on routes originating from Mumbai and connecting to key destinations like Ahmedabad, Indore, and Vadodara. For instance, three pairs of special trains connecting Mumbai Central with Ahmedabad and Indore will continue their services to ease the passenger load. Similarly, Central Railway is running hundreds of special services to cater to the Ganpati festival rush, with a focus on the Konkan region. Special trains are being operated between Pune and Ratnagiri, and Mumbai and Madgaon, to accommodate the heavy traffic of devotees. Northern Railway has also rolled out a comprehensive plan to manage the festive travel demand, particularly for routes connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Multiple 'Festival Special Trains' have been announced to operate through November 2026. Key services include the Varanasi-Delhi, Ayodhya Cantt-Anand Vihar, and Chandigarh-Patna routes, which are expected to complete dozens of trips during this period. Other crucial connections being reinforced include services from Delhi and Anand Vihar to cities like Kanpur, Muzaffarpur, Jogbani, and Patliputra. These routes are traditionally among the busiest during Diwali and Chhath Puja, and the introduction of these special trains is a crucial measure to ensure smoother and more accessible travel for migrant workers and families.
