A Limited Window: Udyan Utsav-II Dates
Unlike the well-known spring opening, the monsoon viewing, called Udyan Utsav-II or the Summer Annuals Edition, is a more recent and brief affair. In 2026, the gardens are open to the public from August 16 to September 15. This limited period is your
only chance to see the grounds in their rainy-season splendour. The daily visiting hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, with the last entry permitted at 5 pm sharp. A crucial point to remember is that the gardens remain closed every Monday for essential maintenance, so be sure to plan your visit for any day from Tuesday to Sunday.
The Golden Rule: Mandatory Online Booking
Perhaps the single biggest change to planning your trip is the booking process. Entry is entirely free, but walk-ins are not permitted under any circumstances. You must book your visiting slot online in advance through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. It is a simple but non-negotiable step. Bookings for any given day close at 10 am on the preceding day, so spontaneity is not an option. Plan at least a day ahead to secure your spot. Once booked, you will receive a digital visitor pass on your mobile, which you must present at the entry gate along with a valid photo ID.
Monsoon Blooms Over Winter Tulips
A monsoon visit offers a completely different floral palette compared to the famous tulips and roses of winter. The Summer Annuals edition focuses on the lush greenery and a vibrant collection of indigenous Indian flowers that thrive in the rain. Expect to see beautiful displays of native species like Gul-mehndi (Balsam), the striking blue Aparajita, Rukmini, and other seasonal blooms that are specifically chosen for their resilience and beauty during this season. The atmosphere is quieter, with fewer crowds and a fresher, greener landscape, offering a more serene experience. New attractions like the Babbling Brook, a tranquil water feature, further enhance the peaceful monsoon ambience.
Navigating Your Visit: Entry and Transport
Your journey to the gardens begins at Gate No. 35, located on North Avenue Road, which serves as both the entry and exit point. To make the commute hassle-free, a dedicated shuttle bus service is available for visitors. These buses ply between the Central Secretariat Metro Station (Gate No. 4) and the entrance at Gate No. 35. The service runs every 30 minutes from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, providing a convenient option to avoid parking and traffic concerns.
Dressing for the Drizzle: What to Carry
Monsoon weather requires practical preparation. Comfortable, water-resistant footwear is a must, as you will be walking through the sprawling 15-acre estate. While the rain enhances the beauty, it also means wet pathways. You are allowed to carry an umbrella, which is highly recommended. Keep your belongings light, as large bags and backpacks are not permitted inside. Wallets, small purses, and mobile phones are allowed, but professional cameras and video recorders are strictly prohibited. If you have essentials you cannot carry, a cloakroom facility is available near the entrance.
Enjoying a Seamless Experience
The authorities have made provisions to ensure a comfortable visit even during a downpour. Rain shelters are strategically placed along the designated route, allowing you to take cover if needed. You will also find facilities for drinking water, restrooms, and first-aid stations available for public use. Since outside food is not allowed, you can make use of the food court inside for refreshments. By keeping the prohibited items list in mind and using the available amenities, your walk through the rain-kissed gardens can be a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable one.
