Introducing the New Service
Indian Railways has given the green light for a new daily express train connecting Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Sawantwadi Road. This service is designed to significantly improve the rail link between the Mumbai Metropolitan
Region and key towns along the Konkan coast. The train will operate under two numbers: Train No. 15087 for the journey from CSMT to Sawantwadi Road, and Train No. 15088 for the return trip. This move addresses the growing demand for transport along this busy corridor, providing a reliable daily option for thousands of passengers.
Route, Halts, and Journey Time
The new express train will cover a distance of 510 kilometres. One of its key features is the extensive number of stops—22 commercial halts in total. This ensures that smaller towns and districts get improved access. Major stops include Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, and Kudal before terminating at Sawantwadi Road. While the official total journey time for this specific new service is yet to be published in a detailed schedule, travel times on the Konkan route are well-established. For instance, other express services covering similar distances, like from Mumbai to Goa, typically take between 10 and 12 hours. The full Mumbai to Mangaluru stretch often takes around 16 hours, so a journey to Sawantwadi would be proportionally shorter.
