A Game-Changer for Travel
Until recently, reaching Daman from Delhi involved a cumbersome journey, typically a 15-hour train ride or a flight to a nearby city like Surat followed by a lengthy road transfer. This has all changed with the launch of a new direct flight service operated
by Alliance Air. The new route cuts the total travel time by at least 10 hours, connecting Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) directly with NAMO Airport in Daman. This development not only opens up Daman for weekend trips but also significantly improves connectivity for business and leisure travellers alike.
Flight Frequency: How Often Can You Fly?
The central question for any traveller is how often the service operates. Currently, the direct flights between Delhi and Daman are not a daily service. Alliance Air is operating flights on this new route twice a week, specifically on Mondays and Wednesdays. This schedule makes it ideal for a long weekend trip, allowing travellers to fly out on a Monday morning and return mid-week, or plan a longer stay spanning the weekend.
The Delhi to Daman Schedule
The flight from Delhi to Daman is an early morning service, perfect for those looking to maximise their time in the coastal town. According to the current schedule, the flight departs from Delhi's IGI Airport at 6:20 AM. With a flight duration of approximately two hours and fifty minutes, passengers can expect to land at Daman's NAMO Airport around 9:10 AM, leaving the entire day free for exploration or business meetings. The total flight distance covered is just over 1,000 kilometres.
The Return Journey: Daman to Delhi
For the return leg, Alliance Air operates a corresponding service from Daman back to the capital. While specific return schedules can be confirmed at the time of booking, the flights are designed to facilitate convenient round trips. The launch of this service from NAMO Airport marks Daman's first direct air link, a significant step under the government's regional connectivity scheme. This ensures a seamless travel experience for those heading back to Delhi or catching onward domestic or international connections from India's largest aviation hub.
Boosting Tourism and Business
This new flight route is more than just a convenience; it's a strategic enhancement of regional connectivity. For tourists, it provides easy access to Daman's serene beaches, historic Portuguese-era forts, and laid-back atmosphere. For the business community, it creates a vital link to one of western India's established manufacturing centres, known for sectors like pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, and engineering. By connecting Daman directly to the national capital, the route is expected to provide a significant boost to both the local economy and the tourism industry.
Booking Your Trip
Tickets for the Delhi-Daman route can be booked through major online travel portals and directly via the Alliance Air website. Fares are competitive, and while they may be higher than a train journey, the immense time savings offer significant value. As with any flight, it is advisable to book in advance, especially since the service currently runs only twice a week. Being flexible with travel dates, such as opting for mid-week travel, can also help in securing better prices.
