The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a tourism promotion that covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for Indian travellers. This is not a blanket visa-free travel policy but a targeted programme designed to make
packaged holidays in the capital more affordable. The initiative runs for a limited time, from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially capped at 20,000 visas. Under this scheme, for qualifying holiday bookings, the visa fee is paid for by DCT Abu Dhabi, resulting in direct savings for tourists.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Visa?
The offer is specifically for Indian passport holders who are travelling from India. However, eligibility is tied to the holiday package, not just the passport. To qualify, your travel plans must meet several key conditions. You must book your trip through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. The booking must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight from India. Travellers cannot apply for this benefit independently through official government visa portals; it must be part of the travel package.
How to Avail the Offer
The process is handled entirely through the travel provider. When you book a qualifying Abu Dhabi holiday package, the travel partner will process your visa application. A number of well-known travel companies in India are part of this programme, including MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook, SOTC, and Thrillophilia, among others. These partners work with a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the visa cost directly. Alternatively, if a travel partner uses their own DMC, DCT Abu Dhabi will reimburse them for the visa fee. For the traveller, the process is seamless—the visa cost is simply removed from the final package price.
Understanding the Real Savings
The primary saving comes from the visa fee itself. A standard 30-day UAE tourist visa costs approximately AED 285, which is about $77 or roughly ₹6,500. For a family of four, this translates to a significant saving of around ₹26,000 on upfront travel costs. While this initiative makes the trip cheaper, it's important to remember that it only covers the visa fee. All other expenses, such as flights, accommodation, food, and activities, are still the responsibility of the traveller. The three-night hotel stay is a prerequisite to benefit from the visa waiver.

This programme is part of a larger strategy by Abu Dhabi to boost its tourism sector and attract more visitors from India, which is one of its most important international markets. By subsidising visa costs, the emirate encourages tourists to plan longer stays and explore what the city has to offer beyond its role as a transit hub. While the offer is straightforward, there are a few key details to remember. The programme is a pilot and is limited to the first 20,000 visas, so it's best to confirm availability with your travel agent when booking. The travel must be completed by October 31, 2026; a booking made before this date for travel afterwards will not qualify. Furthermore, all visa applications are still subject to approval by UAE immigration authorities. This promotion does not guarantee visa issuance, it only covers the cost for approved applicants who meet the package requirements.
