For years, passengers have sought a more reliable and direct daily connection between Mumbai and the southern Konkan region. Indian Railways has responded by launching a new daily express train, linking Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai directly
with Sawantwadi Road. This service, operating under train numbers 15087 and 15088, isn't just another train on the tracks; it's a dedicated solution designed to meet a persistent need for better connectivity on one of Maharashtra's busiest and most picturesque travel corridors. One of the most significant advantages of this new service is its extensive network of stops, which opens up direct access to numerous towns that were previously harder to reach. The train is scheduled to halt at 22 stations, providing seamless connectivity across the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Key stops include Dadar, Thane, and Panvel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, before proceeding to Konkan hubs like Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, and Ratnagiri. Further south, it connects crucial destinations such as Kankavli, Kudal, and Sindhudurg, before terminating at Sawantwadi Road, a key gateway to the southern Konkan and the Goa border.
The Game-Changer of an Overnight Schedule
Perhaps the most convenient feature for travellers is the train’s schedule, which offers a comfortable overnight journey. The service is slated to depart from CSMT late at night, around 11:55 PM, allowing passengers to sleep through most of the journey and arrive at Sawantwadi Road in the early afternoon the next day, at approximately 2:15 PM. For the return trip, the train leaves Sawantwadi Road in the late afternoon and reaches Mumbai’s CSMT early the next morning, around 6:40 AM. This timing is perfect for tourists looking to maximise their vacation time and for professionals or residents who can travel without losing a full working day. It transforms a potentially stressful day-long trip into a restful overnight passage.
