The 5-Minute Sattu Drink
Often called India's original protein shake, sattu is a powerhouse of nutrition. Made from roasted gram flour, it's packed with plant-based protein and fibre. For the quickest breakfast imaginable, simply mix a few tablespoons of sattu flour with water,
black salt, and a squeeze of lemon for a savoury drink. If you prefer a sweeter start, blend sattu with milk (or a plant-based alternative), a banana, and a pinch of cinnamon for a creamy smoothie that provides sustained energy. A single glass can deliver a significant protein boost, keeping you full and focused through your morning meetings.
Speedy Paneer or Tofu Bhurji
Paneer bhurji is a classic high-protein vegetarian breakfast, and it comes together in under 15 minutes. Simply crumble fresh paneer into a pan with sautéed onions, tomatoes, and simple spices like turmeric and cumin. A 100g serving of paneer can provide around 18-20 grams of protein. For a vegan alternative, use firm tofu instead of paneer. It scrambles just as well and is also an excellent source of protein. Serve it with a slice of whole-wheat toast for a balanced and incredibly satisfying meal that will keep hunger at bay until lunchtime.
The No-Cook Greek Yogurt Bowl
When you have absolutely no time to cook, a Greek yogurt bowl is your best friend. Greek yogurt contains roughly double the protein of regular curd, making it a fantastic breakfast base. A bowl of unsweetened Greek yogurt can offer 15-18 grams of protein. To assemble, just scoop the yogurt into a bowl and top it with whatever you have on hand: almonds for healthy fats, chia or flax seeds for fibre, and a handful of berries or chopped fruit for natural sweetness. This breakfast requires zero cooking and can be put together in less than five minutes.
Moong Dal Chilla: Prep Ahead, Cook Fast
Moong dal chilla, a savoury pancake made from lentils, is a light yet protein-dense option. While the dal requires soaking, you can do this overnight. In the morning, just blend the soaked dal with ginger and spices to create the batter. Each chilla cooks in minutes and provides a good dose of plant-based protein and fibre. Two medium-sized chillas can contain around 14-16 grams of protein. You can even make the batter over the weekend and store it in the fridge for a couple of days, making your weekday morning routine even faster.
Spiced Chickpea or Sprout Chaat
For a breakfast that feels more like a zesty snack, a quick chaat is an excellent choice. Canned chickpeas or pre-steamed sprouts are your shortcut here. Toss them with finely chopped onion, tomato, and cucumber. Season with chaat masala, a pinch of red chilli powder, and a generous squeeze of lemon juice. This no-cook meal is refreshing, light on the stomach, and provides a solid amount of protein and fibre to start your day. A bowl of sprout chaat can offer 12-15 grams of protein and is ready in the time it takes to chop a few vegetables.
The Classic Egg Bhurji or Omelette
Never underestimate the power of eggs for a quick and reliable protein source. A two-egg bhurji (scrambled eggs) with onions and spices or a simple omelette can be on your plate in under 10 minutes. Eggs offer high-quality protein, and a two-egg serving provides around 12-14 grams. You can boost the nutritional value and fibre by adding finely chopped vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, or mushrooms. Paired with whole-grain toast, it’s a timeless breakfast that delivers on speed, taste, and nutrition every single time.
