What is the New Visa Offer?
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. Running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, the initiative aims to make choosing
Abu Dhabi for a holiday easier and more affordable. It's important to note this is not a general visa waiver for all Indian citizens but a targeted subsidy attached to qualifying holiday packages. The programme is limited to an initial 20,000 visas, so timing is a factor. Once the cap is reached, the offer will close, regardless of the October 31 deadline.
Who is Eligible for This Offer?
The scheme is specifically designed for Indian passport holders who are travelling from India. This means your journey must originate at an Indian airport. Indian nationals who reside abroad are not eligible under the current terms of the programme. The visa application itself is still subject to the standard immigration requirements of the UAE; the offer simply covers the fee, which is approximately AED 285 ($77). This saves travellers a significant upfront cost, which typically ranges from ₹8,000 to ₹11,000 when including service fees.
What Counts as an 'Eligible Booking'?
This is the most critical part of the offer. To qualify, you cannot simply book a flight or apply for a visa independently. The complimentary visa is only available as part of a package booked through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency (OTA). The booking must include two main components: a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in a hotel located within Abu Dhabi, and a confirmed return flight ticket to India. The goal of this requirement is to encourage tourists to spend meaningful time exploring the emirate, rather than using it as a brief transit stop.
How the Booking Process Works
You cannot apply for this waived visa on a government portal. Instead, the process is handled entirely by the travel company you book with. When you purchase a qualifying holiday package, the travel partner processes your visa application. They have two ways to manage this: either they work with a destination management company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, which covers the cost directly, or they use their own DMC and get reimbursed AED 285 for the visa. For the traveller, the experience is seamless—the visa cost is simply not added to your package price.
Key Things to Check Before You Book
The phrase "check first" is key. Before making any payment, confirm with your travel provider that your specific package qualifies for the complimentary visa. Ask them directly if the three required hotel nights are all in Abu Dhabi and if your return flight is part of the eligible package. Since the offer is capped at 20,000 visas, it's also wise to confirm availability at the time of booking. While the visa fee is covered, you should still compare the total package price against booking flights and hotels independently to ensure you're getting the best overall value for your trip. This offer should be seen as a bonus for a well-planned trip, not the sole reason for a hastily booked one.
