An Epicentre of Agri-Tech
Coimbatore is currently hosting the 24th edition of Agri Intex, a premier agricultural trade fair that has become a vital annual event for the nation's farming community. Organized by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), the five-day
expo, running from July 9th to 13th, 2026, transforms the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex into a bustling hub of innovation. This year, nearly 500 companies from across India and several foreign countries, including Italy, Japan, and the US, are spread across 660 stalls. The event is far more than a simple showcase; it's a dynamic platform connecting farmers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. The goal is to introduce contemporary agricultural practices and technologies that can solve real-world problems, from water scarcity and labour shortages to improving crop yields and overall farm profitability.
Where Machines Meet the Soil
The core theme of Agri Intex is the powerful synergy between engineering and farming. The exhibition floor is a testament to this, featuring a staggering array of machinery designed to address every stage of the agricultural cycle. A major highlight is the push toward automation to combat the persistent issue of labour shortages. Visitors can see live demonstrations of advanced drone sprayers that cover vast areas with precision, direct paddy-transplanting machines that reduce manual effort, and automated harvesters that streamline the entire process from seed to harvest. One machine drawing significant attention is the FarmX 500, a multipurpose electric vehicle capable of carrying loads, spraying fields, and removing stubble—all in one. According to its creators, a single charge can power up to six hours of farm activities, making it a practical choice for small to medium-sized farms. These are not just theoretical concepts but market-ready tools that farmers can evaluate for cost-effectiveness and suitability for their specific needs.
Smarter Farming for a Changing Climate
Beyond heavy machinery, Agri Intex is a frontier for smart farming and sustainable solutions. With experts at the event expressing concern over climate change and potential rainfall shortages, the focus on precision farming has never been more critical. The fair highlights technologies that help farmers do more with less. This includes AI-powered platforms that offer weather-based advisories, smart irrigation systems that use sensors to deliver water exactly when and where it's needed, and drones equipped with special cameras to monitor crop health from above. These innovations allow for the targeted application of inputs like water and fertilizer, reducing waste and boosting sustainability. There is a strong emphasis on eco-friendly solutions, such as solar-powered pumps, organic fertilisers, and methods to improve soil health naturally, reflecting a growing awareness of the need for long-term environmental resilience in agriculture.
More Than Just an Exhibition
What makes Agri Intex so effective is its holistic approach. It's an ecosystem that nurtures growth. The event includes specialised zones for dairy farming, poultry, and horticulture, reflecting the diverse nature of India's agricultural sector. An animal pavilion showcases native Indian breeds of cattle and goats, preserving biodiversity while promoting livestock farming. For farmers, the advantage is clear. As one visitor from Salem district noted, having access to all necessary equipment and inputs under a single roof is a massive benefit. It provides a unique opportunity to compare technologies, negotiate with suppliers, and learn about the latest industry trends. For the younger generation and aspiring agri-entrepreneurs, the expo is a source of information and inspiration, demonstrating that agriculture can be a high-tech, forward-looking industry. By facilitating a trade turnover that has exceeded ₹1,000 million in past editions, Agri Intex proves its role as a powerful engine for business and investment.
