Budget Tip: Getting There
Smriti Van's central location is its biggest advantage. You can easily reach it using local city buses that ply on JLN Marg, which is a major city artery. Alternatively, an auto-rickshaw or a ride-hailing service from most parts of the city will be very affordable. Since there's no entry fee, your only expense is the minimal cost of transport. The park is generally open from early morning until around 5 PM.
Amer Sagar: The Hidden Lake
While most tourists flock to the Amber Fort, very few venture to the serene water body behind it: Amer Sagar. This hidden gem offers a stunning and tranquil view, with the fortifications of Amer reflecting in its waters. It's a historical water reservoir that showcases the region's ancient water conservation techniques. The area is perfect for photography, quiet contemplation, and spotting local birdlife. Budget Tip: Reaching The Waters
Take a local bus heading towards Amer from anywhere in Jaipur. These are frequent and extremely cheap. Get off at the main Amer bus stop and from there, it’s a short walk or a very brief auto-rickshaw ride to the lake. Ask locals for “Sagar,” and they will point you in the right direction. There is no cost to visit the lake itself. Pack some water and snacks, as facilities are limited, and enjoy a priceless view for next to nothing.
Nahargarh Biological Park: A Walk on the Wild Side
Located on the Jaipur-Delhi highway, just outside the city, the Nahargarh Biological Park is a vast expanse of over 720 hectares nestled in the Aravalli range. While the attached zoological park houses lions, tigers, and bears, the wider biological park area is a mosaic of dense foliage, rocky outcrops, and walking trails. It’s an excellent spot for birdwatching, with over 285 species recorded. The entry fee for Indian nationals is a nominal INR 50, offering incredible value for a day immersed in a semi-wild environment.
Budget Tip: A Planned Outing
While slightly further out, Nahargarh Biological Park is still accessible on a budget. You can take a city bus that goes towards Amer or Kunda and then hire an auto-rickshaw for the final stretch. To save more, go with a group and split the cost of an auto from the city. Be aware that the park is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. The small entry fee is a worthwhile investment for the sheer scale of the natural landscape you get to explore.
