An Expo of Evolution
The 24th edition of Agri Intex, hosted by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), has become a crucial hub for agricultural innovation. This year, the sprawling 1.5 lakh sq.ft. exhibition space is less about brute force and more
about intelligent farming. With over 450 companies from across India and countries like Italy, Japan, and the US, the buzz isn't just about bigger machines, but smarter ones. Experts at the event have emphasized the need for such innovations, pointing to climate change and labour shortages as urgent drivers for a technological shift in farming practices.
Eyes in the Sky, Boots on the Ground
Among the biggest crowd-pullers are the advanced drone sprayers. These unmanned aerial vehicles are transforming a traditionally labour-intensive task. Capable of covering large areas with precision, they reduce manual effort and the overuse of chemicals. Alongside them, a new breed of ground-level automation is emerging. One notable example is the FarmX 500 from XMatic Innovation, a multipurpose electric vehicle that can handle spraying, load-carrying, and stubble removal. With a six-hour battery life on a full charge, it's a practical solution aimed at making daily farm activities more efficient for smaller operations.
The Rise of Precision Farming
The core theme running through the expo is precision. This means giving farmers the tools to use resources more effectively. Seminars and exhibits are focused on sustainable solutions like automated micro-irrigation, which delivers water directly to a plant's roots, and solar-powered water pumps that reduce reliance on fossil fuels and cut operational costs. The goal is to increase productivity while making agriculture more resilient to environmental challenges like water scarcity. Experts at the event have strongly advocated for these technologies to help farmers adapt to changing climatic conditions.
From Harvest to High-Tech
The innovation doesn't stop once the crops are grown. The expo highlights a range of post-harvest technologies designed to reduce waste, which can account for significant losses for farmers. This includes everything from advanced food processing machinery to cold storage solutions that extend the shelf life of perishable goods. There is also a focus on dairy and poultry farming, with dedicated pavilions showcasing the latest in livestock management, feed equipment, and automated processes to meet the growing demand for milk, eggs, and meat.
Accessible Innovation for All
While high-end technology is on full display, the event also caters to the practical needs of every farmer. There are extensive displays of high-quality seeds, organic fertilisers, and even climate-adapted saplings. Organisers and participants have made an effort to show how many of these new technologies, from affordable electric machines to smart irrigation, can be adopted by small and medium-sized farms. For the thousands of farmers visiting, it’s a unique opportunity to see, compare, and learn about the tools that will help them build a more profitable and sustainable future.
