The Route and Timings
The new service, train numbers 26903/26904, will connect Surat and Udaipur City, covering a distance of approximately 690 kilometres in about seven and a half hours. This offers a significant time saving compared to the eight-to-nine-hour road journey.
The train is scheduled to run six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. According to the approved schedule, the train will depart from Surat at 6:10 AM, arriving in Udaipur at 1:40 PM. The return journey will see the train leave Udaipur at 3:35 PM and pull into Surat at 11:00 PM.
Key Stops and Regional Connectivity
This route is designed to enhance connectivity across several key locations. During its journey, the train will make commercial stops at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, and Asarva in Gujarat, before entering Rajasthan with halts at Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar. This makes the service a crucial link not just between the two terminal cities, but also for passengers across central and southern Gujarat and southern Rajasthan. The decision extends and replaces the previous Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat service, effectively expanding the route to Surat's major hub.
A Major Boost for Tourism
The direct link is expected to be a significant boon for tourism. Udaipur, known as the 'City of Lakes', is a massively popular destination for travellers from Gujarat. This new, faster train makes weekend getaways and short holidays much more convenient, potentially leading to a surge in visitors. By providing a comfortable and quick travel option, the service is poised to strengthen the social and cultural ties between the two regions and make one of India’s most picturesque cities more accessible than ever.
Strengthening Commercial Ties
The new route isn't just for tourists. Surat, a powerhouse of the diamond and textile industries, will now have its first Vande Bharat Express, a direct connection to a key city in a neighbouring state. This enhanced connectivity is expected to facilitate easier and faster business travel, giving a new impetus to trade relations between the two commercial centres. With primary maintenance facilities for the train based in Surat, the city's role in the expanding Vande Bharat network is further solidified.
