Understanding the Free Visa Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme specifically for tourists from India. Under this initiative, the government authority will cover the full cost of a UAE entry visa, which typically costs
around Dhs285, for eligible travellers. This is not a general visa-waiver program but a targeted promotion designed to encourage longer stays in the capital. The offer is valid for travel between August 1 and October 31, 2026, and is limited to the first 20,000 visas secured under the scheme. Once the cap is reached, the offer will end, regardless of the date.
Who is Eligible for the Free Visa?
To qualify for this promotion, travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. First and foremost, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. The core requirement is booking a package that includes a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. Your booking must also include a return flight ticket to India. Crucially, flight-only or hotel-only bookings are not eligible for the free visa; it must be a package booked through a participating travel partner.
How to Book and Secure Your Visa
You cannot apply for this free visa independently through an official government portal. The benefit is exclusively available through participating travel partners and online travel agencies (OTAs). When you book a qualifying holiday package, the travel partner will handle the visa application process on your behalf. DCT Abu Dhabi has arranged for these partners to either process the visa through an appointed Destination Management Company (DMC) where the cost is directly covered, or get reimbursed for the visa fee. The key for travellers is to confirm with their travel agent or OTA that they are part of this specific promotion before finalising their booking.
Making the Most of Your Three-Night Stay
With the three-night stay being a mandatory component of the offer, it’s a perfect opportunity to explore Abu Dhabi beyond its airport. A three-day itinerary allows ample time to experience the city's highlights. You could dedicate a day to the cultural landmarks on Saadiyat Island, such as the magnificent Louvre Abu Dhabi, and another to the thrilling theme parks on Yas Island, like Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World. A visit to the serene Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must for many visitors, while others might enjoy the natural beauty of the mangroves or the city's vibrant dining scene. Since the UAE entry visa is a federal document, you are also free to visit Dubai or other emirates during your trip, as long as your hotel stay of at least three nights is in Abu Dhabi.
Important Fine Print to Remember
While the offer is straightforward, it's essential to remember the key limitations. The program is a pilot, capped at 20,000 visas, which could be exhausted before the October 31 deadline. The offer is specifically for a package including a hotel and return flight; it is not a standalone visa sponsorship. The visa provided is a standard UAE entry visa, subject to the usual immigration approvals and requirements. The promotion simply covers the cost. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Abu Dhabi to strengthen its connection with the Indian travel market, which includes improving air connectivity and partnerships with travel companies.
