A Modern Train for the Masses
Indian Railways has launched the Amrit Bharat Express as a new category of long-distance train designed to serve the common person. Unlike premium, fully air-conditioned services, Amrit Bharat trains are focused on providing an enhanced, comfortable,
and fast journey primarily in non-AC sleeper and general class coaches. The goal is to offer a significant upgrade over conventional mail and express trains without a steep price hike, targeting some of the country's busiest travel corridors like the one connecting the national capital to eastern Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aims to address overcrowding and improve mobility for millions, especially migrant workers and families who rely on this vital rail link.
The Technology Behind the Speed
What makes the Amrit Bharat service stand out is its innovative 'push-pull' technology. Each train is equipped with a locomotive at both the front and rear ends. This configuration allows for much faster acceleration and deceleration, significantly cutting down on overall journey time. The train can reach a maximum speed of 130 kmph. Passengers will also notice a smoother, jerk-free ride thanks to the use of semi-permanent couplers, which minimize the jolts typically felt during starts and stops. This advanced engineering makes the nearly 14-hour journey more pleasant and efficient.
Flexibility on the Delhi-Gorakhpur Line
The new service, which regularises a former special train, adds a reliable and structured weekly option for travellers. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur every Thursday at 10:45 PM, arriving in Delhi the next day at 12:50 PM. The return journey, Train No. 15096, departs Delhi every Friday at 2:00 PM, reaching Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM on Saturday. This schedule provides an overnight travel option in both directions, which is convenient for passengers looking to save on daytime travel hours. The train stops at eight key intermediate stations, including Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, Bareilly, and Moradabad, providing crucial connectivity for several mid-sized towns in Uttar Pradesh.
Upgraded Comforts and Amenities
The Amrit Bharat Express redefines non-AC travel with features inspired by the Vande Bharat series. The coaches are designed with improved aesthetics and comfort, featuring better-cushioned seats and berths. For the modern passenger, each seat is equipped with mobile charging sockets, including both USB Type-A and Type-C ports. Other thoughtful additions include foldable snack tables, bottle holders, and radium floor strips for better visibility in the dark. The train also features modern, hygienic bio-vacuum toilets, CCTV cameras for enhanced security, and a passenger information system to keep travellers updated throughout their journey.
An Affordable Alternative
At its core, the Amrit Bharat Express is designed to be an accessible travel option. By focusing on non-AC coaches, it provides a budget-friendly alternative to the fully air-conditioned trains on the same route, without compromising on modern amenities and speed. It strikes a balance between the cost of a regular express train and the comfort of a more premium service. This makes it an attractive choice for students, families, and daily commuters who want a better travel experience at a reasonable price point. The introduction of this service demonstrates a commitment to enhancing rail travel for every economic stratum, ensuring that speed and comfort are not just reserved for luxury services.
