In a city defined by superlatives, Dubai is once again raising the bar for opulence. The iconic Gold District is set to unveil a breathtaking new feature: a walkway paved with 24-carat gold, promising an experience straight out of a fairytale.
A Glimmering Golden Welcome
Dubai's
reputation as the 'City of Gold' is about to become even more literal. A new attraction within the Dubai Gold District in Deira will allow visitors to stroll along what is being called the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-carat gold. This shimmering path is the latest statement piece in a city known for its architectural wonders and luxurious experiences. Announced by officials from the Dubai Gold District, the project is designed to offer residents and tourists an unparalleled experience, blending the district's commercial focus with a spectacular new tourist draw. While exact details on its length and construction remain under wraps, the walkway is a bold reaffirmation of Dubai’s status as a global hub for the gold and jewellery trade.
The Vision for a Golden Future
The golden walkway is part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai's allure and cement its position as a leading destination for tourism and trade. The idea first surfaced in January 2026, when developer Ithra Dubai announced plans for a 'Gold Street' as a central feature of the newly launched Dubai Gold District. The district itself, which opened in January 2026, was conceived as a comprehensive hub, bringing together over 1,000 retailers, wholesalers, bullion traders, and investors in one purpose-built destination. According to Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the district, the area has already seen significant growth, with a 20 percent increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15 percent rise in new stores since the start of the year. This new attraction aims to build on that momentum, drawing even more international attention.
When and Where to Find It
This dazzling new feature is slated to open before the end of 2026, with officials suggesting it could be ready within two months from late October. This timeline positions the attraction to be a major highlight for the winter tourist season. The walkway will be located within the Dubai Gold District in Deira, the historic heart of the city's trade near the famous Dubai Creek. Visitors will be able to combine a walk on the golden path with exploring the surrounding Gold Souk Extension, which offers a modern, air-conditioned shopping experience with wide, shaded walkways, a stark contrast to the bustling, traditional souk nearby. The area is designed for accessibility, with thousands of parking spaces and proximity to public transport.
More Than Just Gold
The golden path is the crown jewel of the much larger Deira Enrichment Project, a massive undertaking by Ithra Dubai to revitalise one of the city's oldest commercial hubs. This mixed-use development has transformed the waterfront area with new residential apartments, offices, hotels, and retail spaces, all while aiming to preserve the area's unique cultural heritage. The Gold Souk Extension, where the walkway will be situated, already includes hundreds of new retail units, modern facilities, and a variety of dining options. The broader vision is to create a fully integrated community that enhances the experience for traders, residents, and the millions of tourists who visit the gold souk each year, ensuring Dubai's original trading hub continues to thrive in the modern era.
