These schemes offer subsidies of 35-50% for setting up components like cold storage units and refrigerated transport, encouraging private investment. Concurrently, regulatory bodies like the FSSAI are tightening compliance. The authority mandates strict temperature controls, such as 0°C to 4°C for chilled meat and -18°C or below for frozen products, throughout the supply chain. Recent FSSAI reforms are also aimed at a more risk-based approach to regulation, focusing compliance efforts where safety risks are highest. This combination of financial incentives and stricter enforcement signals a clear policy shift toward making the cold chain a national priority.
