Understanding Your New Train
The Railway Board has approved the introduction of Surat's first originating Vande Bharat service, connecting the city directly to Udaipur. This premium train, designated by numbers 26903 (Surat to Udaipur) and 26904 (Udaipur to Surat), is designed to significantly
reduce travel time and enhance comfort between these two important destinations. The service will operate with a modern eight-coach rake, which is a 'Mini Vande Bharat 2.0' model, featuring state-of-the-art amenities. It is expected to be a popular choice for both business travellers and tourists, boosting connectivity between South Gujarat and Southern Rajasthan. The launch is anticipated before the Navratri festival season to cater to the festive rush.
Schedule, Timings, and Frequency
The train is scheduled to run six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. Train number 26903 will depart from Surat (ST) at 6:10 AM and is scheduled to arrive at Udaipur City (UDZ) at 1:40 PM the same day. For the return journey, train number 26904 will depart from Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. The total journey is expected to take approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes, making it one of the fastest travel options on this route.
Route and Key Stoppages
The train will traverse a distance of about 690 km, with nine commercial stops between the origin and destination. After departing from Surat, the key stoppages include Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar before finally reaching Udaipur City. These stops connect several important towns and economic centres, making the service accessible to a wider range of passengers.
Classes and Expected Fares
The Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express offers two classes of travel: the AC Chair Car (CC) and the Executive Chair Car (EC). The Executive class provides more spacious seating and enhanced amenities. While official fares will be announced when bookings open on the IRCTC portal, initial estimates suggest that a ticket for the AC Chair Car could cost between ₹1,400 and ₹1,800. A seat in the more premium Executive Chair Car is expected to be priced in the range of ₹2,600 to ₹3,200. These prices are dynamic and may vary based on demand and catering choices.
Onboard Amenities and Experience
Vande Bharat trains are known for their passenger-centric features. Expect ergonomically designed, reclining seats with ample legroom. All coaches are fully air-conditioned and feature large windows for panoramic views. For convenience, there are charging sockets under every seat, GPS-based passenger information screens, and onboard Wi-Fi for infotainment. The coaches are connected by sealed gangways, which reduce noise and improve cleanliness. Modern, bio-vacuum toilets are also a standard feature.
Catering and Food Service
Onboard catering is typically included in the Vande Bharat ticket fare, though passengers usually have the option to opt out during booking. The menu is designed based on the time of day and journey duration. For the morning departure from Surat, you can expect breakfast and lunch to be served. The evening service from Udaipur will likely include evening snacks and dinner. Meals are hygienically packed and served at your seat. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are generally available, often with a touch of local cuisine.
How to Book and Final Tips
Tickets for the Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat will be available for booking exclusively through the IRCTC website (irctc.co.in) and the Rail Connect mobile app. It is advisable to book in advance, especially for weekend or festive travel, as seats fill up quickly. Remember to carry a valid photo ID during your journey. The introduction of this service will lead to the discontinuation of the existing Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, as this new train effectively extends that route to Surat.
