The ever-popular journey from Bengaluru's tech corridors to Goa's sandy shores is set for a major upgrade. A new Vande Bharat Express service is poised to slash travel time, making the scenic train ride faster and more convenient than ever before.
A New Era of Connectivity
The
Indian Railways board has officially approved a new Vande Bharat Express connecting Yesvantpur in Bengaluru to Madgaon in Goa. This move, confirmed on October 30, 2026, introduces a direct, semi-high-speed daytime service between the two major hubs. The new service is expected to begin in the third week of November 2026, though a final launch date and fare details are yet to be announced. This development is a direct result of the recently completed electrification of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru railway line, a crucial infrastructure project that has paved the way for faster and more efficient train operations on the route.
Your 13-Hour Itinerary
The headline feature of this new service is its speed. The journey from Yesvantpur to Madgaon is scheduled to take approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes. The return journey is even quicker, projected at 12 hours and 55 minutes. Train No. 26655 will depart from Yesvantpur at 7:35 am and arrive in Madgaon at 8:55 pm, operating six days a week, with no service on Wednesdays. In the other direction, Train No. 26656 will leave Madgaon at 8:20 am and pull into Yesvantpur at 9:15 pm, running six days a week, excluding Thursdays. This schedule provides a comfortable daytime travel option that was previously unavailable.
A Journey Through the Ghats
Beyond its speed, the train's route is a significant attraction. The service will run via Mangaluru, traversing the stunning landscapes of the Western Ghats. Passengers will be treated to panoramic views of lush hills, dense forests, and valley bridges, particularly on the scenic stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road. The train will make 12 key stops, connecting several important towns in Karnataka's interior and coastal regions before reaching Goa. Major halts include Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Kundapura, Murdeshwar, Gokarna Road, and Karwar, significantly improving connectivity for both tourists and local commuters along the entire coastal belt.
What This Means for Travellers
This new Vande Bharat service is a game changer for those travelling between Karnataka and Goa. Previously, train journeys could take 16 hours or more, often involving overnight travel. The new express train offers a faster and more comfortable alternative to buses and can be a more relaxing option than air travel once airport transit times are factored in. The chair car service is designed for a modern travel experience, and the daytime schedule allows passengers to enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the way. With the introduction of this train, the existing Madgaon - Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat service will be discontinued, as this new route effectively extends and replaces it.
