Malaysia: Visa-Free Until 2026
Southeast Asian favourite Malaysia has solidified its welcoming stance by extending its visa-free entry program for Indian citizens all the way through December 31, 2026. This popular decision allows tourists to enter the country for up to 30 days without
needing to apply for a visa in advance, a move designed to boost its tourism sector. This makes planning a trip to see the iconic Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, explore the historic streets of Penang, or relax on the beaches of Langkawi significantly easier. While the visa itself is not required for a month-long tourist stay, travellers must complete one simple digital formality before they fly. All visitors are required to fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days prior to their arrival. This free and quick process is the only step needed to take advantage of the visa-free scheme. For entry, immigration officials will also expect to see a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed return flight ticket, and proof of accommodation.
Kenya: A Simpler Safari Awaits
For those dreaming of witnessing the great wildebeest migration in the Maasai Mara or exploring the vibrant culture of Nairobi, getting to Kenya is now much more straightforward. The country has replaced its traditional, often cumbersome visa application process with a modern Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system. Announced to boost tourism, this change means Indian travellers no longer need to go through a consulate or embassy for a standard tourist visa. While this isn't a completely visa-free arrangement, it marks a significant simplification. The eTA must be applied for and approved online before your journey begins. The process is designed to be quick, requiring basic personal information, travel details, and accommodation proof. Once approved, the eTA is sent electronically, allowing a stay of up to 90 days. This move effectively “drops the rules” of the old visa regime, replacing it with a digital-first approach that makes planning that once-in-a-lifetime safari adventure faster and more accessible than ever before.
Sri Lanka: Your Island Next Door
Our island neighbour, Sri Lanka, has also made it incredibly easy for Indians to visit. The country has rolled out a pilot program that waives visa fees for tourists from India and several other nations. As of mid-2026, this scheme allows Indian passport holders to obtain a 30-day tourist entry permit without any cost, effectively making the visa free. Similar to Kenya's system, there is one simple digital step involved. While the fee is waived, all visitors are still required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online before arriving in the country. The process is simple and can be completed on the official government portal. This free ETA grants a double-entry facility, meaning you could potentially combine your Sri Lankan holiday with a short trip to another nearby destination within the 30-day validity. With India being Sri Lanka's largest source of tourism, this policy streamlines travel and makes exploring its ancient temples, lush tea plantations, and stunning coastline more appealing than ever.
