Dubai, a city synonymous with ambition and luxury, is adding another glittering attraction to its portfolio. A 24-carat gold walkway is set to open in Deira, promising to blend the area's rich trading history with a dazzling modern touch.
A Glimmering New Landmark
Dubai is preparing
to unveil what is being called the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-carat gold. This unique attraction is part of the new Dubai Gold District in Deira and is expected to open before the end of 2026, with officials suggesting it could be ready within two months of late October 2026. While the exact length and quantity of gold used are still under wraps, the project is designed to offer residents and tourists an unparalleled experience, allowing them to literally walk a path of gold. The announcement was made by Rashid Al Harmoodi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, who noted the project aims to strengthen the city's standing as a global hub for both tourism and the gold trade.
Revitalising Historic Deira
The choice of location in Deira is significant. This district is the historic heart of Dubai's commerce, home to the famous Gold Souk that has attracted traders and shoppers for generations. The new walkway is a key feature of the Gold Souk Extension, which in turn is part of the massive Deira Enrichment Project by developer Ithra Dubai. This broader initiative aims to rejuvenate the entire area, blending its traditional character with modern infrastructure. The project is revitalising Dubai's original trading hub by adding new residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces while preserving the cultural charm that makes Deira unique.
More Than Just a Walkway
The Gold Walkway is the centrepiece of the newly launched Dubai Gold District, a purpose-built destination for the entire jewellery industry. Launched in January 2026, the district consolidates retail shops, wholesale trade, and investment opportunities in one place. It already features more than 1,000 retailers selling everything from gold and jewellery to perfumes and lifestyle goods. Since the start of the year, the district has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new luxury stores, indicating strong commercial growth. The walkway is intended to be a major tourist draw, creating a seamless experience that combines shopping with a unique attraction.
The Bigger Picture: Deira's Transformation
The Deira Enrichment Project is a multi-phase development designed to breathe new life into one of Dubai's oldest neighbourhoods. The master plan includes thousands of new residential apartments, hundreds of retail and office spaces, and several international brand hotels. A key feature is a new, stateofate integrated transportation hub, which includes a metro station, a bus terminal, and taxi ranks, making the area more accessible than ever. The Gold Souk Extension itself adds nearly 300 new retail units, modern offices, and shaded walkways, all designed to enhance the visitor experience while respecting the area's heritage. This project carefully balances preserving the soul of the old souk with providing the modern facilities that today's shoppers and traders expect.
