Understanding the 'Free Visa' Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This is not a visa-free travel policy, but rather a travel incentive where the visa fee,
approximately AED 285 ($77), is paid for by Abu Dhabi's tourism authority. The initiative aims to make visiting the capital more attractive and accessible. The programme is a limited-time offer, running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is capped at the first 20,000 qualifying visas. This means travellers should confirm availability with their chosen travel partner before finalising any plans.
Who is Eligible for This Programme?
The offer is specifically designed for Indian passport holders travelling from India. To qualify, travellers must book a complete holiday package and cannot apply for the free visa independently. The mandatory conditions for eligibility are clear: the booking must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight from India. Both of these components must be part of a single package booked through a participating travel agency. Simply booking a flight to Abu Dhabi or a hotel separately will not make you eligible for this visa cost waiver.
How to Apply and Who Are the Partners
The application process is handled entirely by the travel provider. Instead of applying for a visa on their own, travellers must book their qualifying Abu Dhabi holiday through one of the designated travel partners. These partners will then process the visa, either through a Destination Management Company (DMC) appointed by DCT Abu Dhabi, where the cost is covered directly, or by getting a reimbursement for the fee. According to reports, the list of participating partners includes well-known names like MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook, SOTC, Akbar Holidays, and several others. The list includes: Holiday Tribe, Thrillophilia, Utazzo.com, Kesari Tours, Riya Travels, Royal Tours, PickYourTrail, and Aaryan Leisure. Once you book your package, the agent will handle the visa submission for you.
Key Terms and Conditions to Remember
The most critical condition is the travel window. The entire trip must be completed by October 31, 2026, to qualify for the free visa. Booking a trip before the deadline for travel dates after October 31 will not make you eligible. There is no specified limit on the number of free visas a single family or group can receive in one booking, as long as each individual traveller meets all the requirements of the programme. It's also important to distinguish this offer from other visa options. The UAE also offers a 14-day visa on arrival for certain Indian nationals (for instance, those holding a valid US visa or Green Card), but that comes with a fee and is a separate policy. This Abu Dhabi initiative is a specific, limited-time promotion tied to a complete holiday package.
