Understanding the Amrit Bharat Express
The Amrit Bharat Express is a new class of superfast train designed by Indian Railways to provide an affordable, high-speed travel option for long-distance routes. Unlike premium services, these trains are fully non-air-conditioned, featuring sleeper
(SL) and unreserved general seating (GS) coaches. The key innovation is the use of 'push-pull' technology, with a locomotive at each end of the train. This allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, significantly reducing travel time and providing a smoother, jerk-free ride for passengers. These trains are designed for mass mobility, aiming to ease pressure on some of the country's most congested rail lines.
Schedule and Timings
The new weekly service regularises the existing Gorakhpur-Delhi special train (05057/05058). Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM, arriving at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. The return service, Train No. 15096, will depart from Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:10 PM, reaching Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM the following morning. The inaugural run from Gorakhpur is scheduled for August 27, 2026, with the first service from Delhi commencing on August 28, 2026. The journey covers a distance of approximately 780 kilometres in about 14 hours.
Route and Key Stoppages
Connecting eastern Uttar Pradesh with the national capital, the train will make eight intermediate stops. The key stations on the route for Train No. 15095 (Gorakhpur to Delhi) are Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. The return journey follows the same route. This provides crucial connectivity for passengers from several mid-sized towns in Uttar Pradesh, offering them a direct link to Delhi and reducing reliance on more crowded or indirect train services.
Onboard Features and Amenities
Passenger comfort and modern amenities are central to the Amrit Bharat design. The coaches feature improved seating and berths, better ventilation, and modern, hygienic toilets with an automatic odour control system. For convenience, each passenger has access to mobile charging sockets, including both Type-A and Type-C USB ports. Other notable features include foldable snack tables, bottle holders, radium illumination flooring for better visibility at night, and fully sealed gangways for smooth movement between coaches. Safety is also a priority, with CCTV in all coaches, an aerosol-based fire suppression system, and an emergency talk-back system for communication with the train guard.
Fares and How to Book
As a service aimed at the common person, fares for the Amrit Bharat Express are designed to be affordable, approximately 15% higher than standard mail or express trains. Tickets can be booked online through the IRCTC website and mobile app, as well as via authorized booking partners. Physical tickets are also available at railway station reservation counters. The Advance Reservation Period (ARP) for these trains is 60 days. A key point to note is that Amrit Bharat trains do not have a Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) quota; passengers will either have a confirmed ticket or a waitlisted one.
