The journey between Bengaluru's tech parks and Goa's sandy shores is set to become faster and more scenic. The Indian Railways has approved a new Vande Bharat Express, promising a comfortable daytime trip in just over 13 hours.
A New Chapter in Rail Connectivity
The Railway Board has officially
sanctioned the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Yesvantpur in Bengaluru with Madgaon in Goa. This move addresses a long-standing demand for better daytime rail connectivity between the two popular destinations. The new service, operating under train numbers 26655 and 26656, is expected to be a game-changer for tourists and regular commuters alike, offering a modern, air-conditioned chair car experience. According to reports, the service is anticipated to launch in the third week of November 2026, though an exact date and fare details are yet to be announced. As part of this new rollout, the existing Vande Bharat service between Mangaluru Central and Madgaon will be discontinued due to low passenger numbers.
Route, Timings, and Schedule
The Yesvantpur-Madgaon service (26655) is scheduled to depart from Yesvantpur at 7:35 AM and arrive in Madgaon at 8:55 PM, completing the journey in approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes. This train will run six days a week, with no service on Wednesdays. In the return direction, the Madgaon-Yesvantpur train (26656) will leave Madgaon at 8:20 AM and reach Yesvantpur at 9:15 PM, with a slightly shorter travel time of 12 hours and 55 minutes. This service will operate six days a week, excluding Thursdays. The route is planned via Mangaluru Junction, providing crucial links to several towns in Karnataka's interior and coastal regions before reaching Goa.
A Journey Through the Western Ghats
One of the most anticipated aspects of this new train is its journey through the picturesque Western Ghats. The stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road is particularly renowned for its stunning natural beauty, offering passengers breathtaking views of lush green hills, dense forests, and dramatic landscapes. This scenic route promises to make the travel experience itself a highlight of the trip. The train will make 12 stops between its origin and destination, including key locations like Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Murdeshwar, and Karwar, significantly improving access to these coastal and hinterland destinations.
Onboard Experience and Amenities
Like other Vande Bharat services, this train will feature modern amenities designed for passenger comfort. It will operate as a chair car service, likely with both AC Chair Car (CC) and Executive Chair Car (EC) options. Passengers can expect reclining seats, wide windows for enjoying the view, onboard catering services, and clean, well maintained bio vacuum toilets. These features combined with the reduced travel time compared to many existing overnight trains position the Vande Bharat as a premium and convenient travel option. The service s introduction was made possible by the recent electrification of the Bengaluru Mangaluru railway line allowing for faster and more efficient train operations through the challenging ghat sections.
How to Plan Your Trip
While the official launch date and ticket prices are still awaited travellers can anticipate booking their seats through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and mobile app once the service is formally announced. Given the popularity of the Bengaluru Goa route tickets are expected to be in high demand so it is advisable to book well in advance. This new train offers a compelling alternative to overnight buses and other slower trains providing a comfortable and scenic day journey that lands you in Goa just in time for a late dinner.
