What Is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, or MDAC, is a compulsory online pre-arrival form for all foreign nationals entering the country. Introduced to replace the old paper-based landing cards, the MDAC streamlines the immigration process by capturing your
details digitally before you land. It is important to understand that the MDAC is not a visa; it is an entry requirement that must be completed even if you are eligible for visa-free travel. The Malaysian government offers visa-free entry for Indian citizens for stays up to 30 days until the end of 2026, but completing the MDAC remains a mandatory step for all.
When and Where to Fill the Form
The MDAC must be submitted online within the three days leading up to your arrival in Malaysia. For example, if you are scheduled to land in Kuala Lumpur on August 20th, you can fill out the form anytime from August 17th onwards. Submitting it earlier than three days will result in the system rejecting it. Crucially, you must use the official portal of the Immigration Department of Malaysia to complete the form. The submission is completely free of charge. Be wary of third-party websites that may pose as official portals and attempt to charge a fee for the service.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Submission
Filling out the MDAC is a straightforward process that takes only a few minutes. First, visit the official MDAC website and click 'Register'. You will need to accurately fill in your personal information, including your full name as it appears on your passport, passport number, date of birth, and nationality. Next, enter your travel details: date of arrival, date of departure, mode of transport (e.g., air), and flight number. You will also need to provide the address of your accommodation in Malaysia. After carefully reviewing all the entered information for any errors, submit the form.
After You Submit: The Confirmation
Once you have successfully submitted your MDAC, a confirmation will be sent to your registered email address. This email may contain a unique PIN and a link to download a PDF of your completed arrival card. While immigration officers can verify your submission electronically, it is highly recommended to save a digital copy of this confirmation on your phone or even keep a printout. This can be useful as a backup to present to airline staff before boarding or to immigration officers upon arrival if requested.
At the Kuala Lumpur Airport
Upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA or KLIA2), you must have several documents ready for immigration. Along with your passport (which must be valid for at least six months), you need your completed MDAC, a confirmed return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation, such as hotel bookings. While not always asked for, proof of sufficient funds for your stay is also a formal requirement. As part of a system expansion, passport holders from India are now eligible to use the automated gates (autogates) for quicker clearance. However, first-time visitors must typically enroll their biometrics by using the manual immigration counter once upon arrival. On subsequent visits, you can proceed directly to the autogates for a much faster entry process.
