A New Direct Connection
Air India has officially announced a significant expansion for its winter 2026-27 schedule, featuring a new, non-stop seasonal service between Mumbai and Toronto. This is a landmark move, making Air India the only carrier to offer a direct connection
between these two bustling metropolises during the season. The service is scheduled to operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. It will run from October 25, 2026, through March 26, 2027, perfectly aligning with the peak holiday and festive travel season when many are looking to visit family and friends. This new route is set to add nearly 2,000 seats each week, addressing the strong and growing demand for travel between India and Canada.
More Than Just a Flight
For years, travellers from Mumbai and surrounding regions in western and southern India faced the inconvenience of connecting flights, usually via Delhi or through hubs in Europe and the Middle East. This new service eliminates that hassle, drastically cutting down on travel time and complexity. The route will be serviced by Air India's upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which promises an enhanced passenger experience. These planes feature a three-class configuration, including luxurious First Class suites, flat-bed seats in Business Class, and a spacious Economy cabin, along with onboard Wi-Fi connectivity. This direct link connects two major economic hubs, catering not just to the large Indian diaspora and student population, but also to growing business and tourism interests.
What This Means for Your Travel Plans
The introduction of this route is a game-changer for Canada travel planning. The direct connection means simpler logistics, no transit visa complications, and a more comfortable journey, which is especially beneficial for families with children or elderly passengers. The timing of the flights has also been planned for convenience. Flights will depart Mumbai in the early morning and arrive in Toronto mid-morning the same day, while the return flight leaves Toronto in the early afternoon, arriving in Mumbai the following afternoon. This schedule allows for easier onward travel and helps in adjusting to the time difference. Bookings are already open across all major channels, including the airline's website and travel agents.
A Wider Canadian Expansion
The Mumbai-Toronto route is the headline act in Air India's broader strategy to enhance its Canadian services. The airline is also deploying its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on its popular Delhi-Toronto route. This move not only brings the airline's newest cabin products to the Canadian market but also significantly boosts the availability of premium seats by over 70% to Toronto. In total, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights to Canada this winter: ten from Delhi to Toronto, seven from Delhi to Vancouver, and the new three-times-weekly service from Mumbai. This increased capacity offers travellers more flexibility and options than ever before. From hubs in Mumbai and Delhi, passengers can seamlessly connect from cities like Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
