A Cleaner, Faster Interface
The most immediate change users will notice is the redesigned interface. The new layout is cleaner, loads faster, and significantly reduces clutter. Gone are the excessive pop-ups and flashing ads that often interrupted the booking process. This streamlined
design is not just about looks; it's built for speed, allowing pages to load more quickly even on slower internet connections and reducing the chances of the site lagging during crucial booking moments. Furthermore, the system has been upgraded to handle a massive volume of users, with the capacity to process over 1.5 lakh bookings per minute, a significant jump from the previous infrastructure. This enhancement aims to minimise booking failures and payment issues, especially during high-demand periods like the Tatkal window.
Simplified Search and Selection
Finding the right train and class is now much simpler. The updated website allows passengers to see seat availability for all classes—like Sleeper, 3A, 2A, and Chair Car—on a single page. Previously, users had to click into each class individually, a time-consuming process. Now, you can compare all options at once, making it easier to choose the most suitable and available seat quickly. The site also introduces a fare calendar, which is a useful tool for flexible travellers. This feature allows you to compare ticket prices across different dates, helping you find cheaper fares and plan your journey more economically. For added convenience, passengers can now also state their seat preference, such as a lower berth for senior citizens, directly during the booking process.
Meet 'Ask Disha 2.0': Your AI Assistant
One of the most powerful new additions is the AI-powered chatbot, 'Ask Disha 2.0'. Short for "Digital Interaction to Seek Help Anytime," this virtual assistant is designed to handle a wide range of tasks conversationally. You can use voice or text commands in English, Hindi, and even Hinglish to book tickets, cancel them, check your PNR status, or track refund requests. A key benefit is that it doesn't require you to remember your IRCTC password for these actions; instead, it uses a secure OTP verification sent to your registered mobile number. The chatbot can also assist with ordering meals to your seat through e-catering services and answering general travel queries 24/7.
Fewer Interruptions and Faster Payments
A common frustration with the old website was the constant need to enter CAPTCHA codes. The new portal promises fewer interruptions by removing these verification steps for normal bookings, relying on upgraded background security to prevent misuse. This makes the entire reservation process smoother and quicker. The payment process has also been streamlined. For frequent travellers, the platform allows you to save preferred payment methods. In case a transaction fails, a quick retry option is available, giving you a chance to complete the payment without starting the booking all over again. For Tatkal bookings, using the pre-loaded IRCTC eWallet is recommended, as it can save critical seconds by eliminating the need for an OTP during payment.
Greater Accessibility for All
The revamped website is designed to be more inclusive. It now supports multiple Indian languages, making it more accessible to users across the country who may not be comfortable with English. This move helps more people book their own tickets directly instead of relying on third-party agents. Additionally, the platform integrates concession bookings for different groups like Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), students, and patients into the main portal. This consolidation simplifies a process that previously required navigating separate or more complex procedures, making it easier for eligible passengers to avail their concessions.
