business R&D expenditure surged to 71.3% in 2023-24, a dramatic increase from 49.9% in 2020-21. This shift is part of a broader trend where private industry's total contribution to India's Gross Expenditure on R&D (GERD) has surpassed that of the government for the first time, reaching 51.8% in 2023-24.
