The New Air Link Explained
Previously, reaching Daman from Delhi involved a lengthy train journey of over 15 hours or a flight to a nearby city like Surat followed by a multi-hour road transfer. That has changed with the launch of direct flights from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International
Airport (IGI) to Daman's NAMO Airport (NMB). Alliance Air is operating this new route, which is a significant development for both tourism and business travel to the region. The flights currently operate twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Stage 1: Your Home to Delhi Airport
The first leg of your journey is getting to IGI Airport. From central parts of Delhi, this can take anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes by taxi or a ride-sharing service, depending heavily on traffic. For a more predictable and often faster option, the Airport Express Metro line can get you from New Delhi Railway Station to the airport in about 25-30 minutes. Factoring in the time to get to your nearest station, it’s wise to budget at least 1.5 hours for this part of the trip.
Stage 2: Navigating the Airport
For domestic travel, it is standard practice to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight's departure time. This buffer allows for check-in, dropping off any luggage, and clearing security without stress. Delhi’s IGI is a large and busy airport, so giving yourself this ample time is crucial for a smooth start to your trip. This two-hour window is a key component of your total door-to-door travel time.
Stage 3: The Flight Itself
The actual time spent in the air is the most straightforward part of the calculation. The non-stop flight from Delhi to Daman has an average duration of approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes to 3 hours. This direct connection is the core of the time-saving, eliminating the long hours previously spent on trains or in road transfers from other airports.
Stage 4: Arrival and Exit in Daman
Once your flight lands at Daman Airport, the journey isn't quite over. You will need to deplane, walk to the baggage claim area, and wait for your luggage. At a smaller regional airport like Daman's, this process is generally quicker than at a major international hub. A reasonable estimate for deplaning, collecting your bags, and exiting the terminal building would be around 30 to 45 minutes.
Stage 5: Daman Airport to Your Final Stop
Daman Airport is conveniently located just a few kilometres from the main city areas. A taxi or local auto-rickshaw can get you to your hotel in Moti Daman or Nani Daman in approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your final destination and local traffic conditions. This final leg is relatively short, making the transition from air travel to holiday mode swift and easy.
The Bottom Line: Your Total Travel Time
So, what's the grand total for your door-to-door travel? Let's add it up: - Travel to Delhi Airport: 1.5 hours - Airport Check-in & Security: 2 hours - Flight Duration: 3 hours - Arrival & Baggage Claim: 45 minutes - Travel from Daman Airport: 30 minutes This brings the total estimated travel time to around 7 hours and 45 minutes. While this is a full travel day, it represents a massive improvement over the alternatives.
How It Compares: Train and Road Journeys
To truly appreciate the convenience of the new flight, consider the other options. Traveling by train from Delhi to Vapi (the nearest major station to Daman) takes between 14 to 19 hours, followed by a road journey to your final destination. A road trip by car is an even longer commitment, covering around 1,200 kilometres and taking approximately 18 to 22 hours of driving time, not including stops. The direct flight saves at least 10 hours of travel time compared to the quickest land-based options, transforming a long-haul journey into a manageable trip.
