A Boost for a High-Demand Route
The Delhi-Gorakhpur corridor is a lifeline for millions, including a large number of migrant workers, students, and families who travel between the national capital and eastern Uttar Pradesh. For years, securing a confirmed ticket on this route, especially
during festival seasons, has been a significant challenge. The introduction of a new train is a welcome development aimed at enhancing connectivity and providing a more reliable travel option for passengers in the Purvanchal region. This new service is part of the Amrit Bharat category of trains, which are designed to offer an improved travel experience with modern amenities at an affordable price, primarily for non-AC passengers.
Meet the Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express
The new service is the Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express. The service is a regularization of a previously running special train. The train will operate under two numbers: Train No. 15095 for the journey from Gorakhpur to Delhi and Train No. 15096 for the return journey from Delhi to Gorakhpur. This weekly service will have its primary maintenance at Gorakhpur and will be operated by the North Eastern Railway. The train is composed of sleeper-class and general-class coaches, focusing on affordability for long-distance commuters.
Schedule and Timings
The regular service is scheduled to begin on August 27, 2026. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM and is scheduled to arrive at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. In the reverse direction, Train No. 15096 will depart from Delhi Junction every Friday, starting August 28, 2026, at 2:10 PM and will reach Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM the following morning. The total journey is expected to take around 14 hours, covering a distance of approximately 780 kilometres.
Route and Key Stoppages
The train will connect several important towns across Uttar Pradesh, providing a direct link to the national capital for many passengers who previously relied on connecting transport. The train will make eight intermediate stops between Gorakhpur and Delhi. The key halts on this route are Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Burhwal, Sitapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad. These stops are strategically chosen to improve accessibility for people residing in smaller towns and cities along this significant railway corridor.
Faster Travel and What It Means for Passengers
The Amrit Bharat Express is expected to offer a faster journey compared to some other services on the route. It will run at a maximum speed of 130 kmph. For instance, another Amrit Bharat train that passes through Gorakhpur takes nearly 19 hours to cover a similar distance, making this new 14-hour service a significant time-saver. The introduction of this train is a direct response to the long-standing demand for better, more frequent, and affordable travel options between Delhi and the densely populated region of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
