Start with a Fresh Canvas
Great makeup begins with good skincare. Before you even think about foundation, make sure your skin is clean and well-moisturised. Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt and oil. Follow up with a lightweight, hydrating moisturiser
suited to your skin type. Give it a few minutes to absorb properly. This step is crucial because it ensures your makeup will go on smoothly and won't look patchy after a few hours of dancing. If your Navratri celebrations start during the day, don't forget to apply a layer of sunscreen.
A Light and Even Base
For a minimal routine, especially one that needs to last through sweat and dancing, less is more when it comes to your base. Instead of a heavy foundation, opt for a lightweight BB cream, CC cream, or a tinted moisturiser. These products even out your skin tone while still looking natural. Apply a few dots on your forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, then blend it out with your fingers or a damp makeup sponge for a seamless finish. If you have blemishes or dark circles, use a small amount of concealer just on those spots, patting it in gently. This targeted approach keeps your base feeling light and comfortable.
A Simple Pop of Colour
To add a healthy, natural-looking flush, a multi-purpose product is a beginner's best friend. A lip and cheek tint or a cream blush stick is perfect for this. Smile and dab a small amount onto the apples of your cheeks. Blend it upwards towards your temples using your fingertips. The warmth of your fingers helps the product melt into the skin for a very natural finish. You can then apply the same product to your lips for a cohesive and quick pop of colour. This saves time and ensures your cheek and lip colours are perfectly coordinated.
Define Your Eyes (The Easy Way)
You don't need a complex eyeshadow look to make your eyes stand out. A simple, well-defined eye is just as impactful. Start by applying a smudge-proof kajal or a brown eyeliner pencil to your upper lash line. Brown often looks softer than black, which is great for a minimal look. For a festive touch, press a neutral shimmer or a soft gold eyeshadow onto your eyelids with your finger. This catches the light beautifully without requiring intricate blending skills. Finish with one or two coats of mascara to open up your eyes. If you have time, filling in your eyebrows with a pencil can frame your entire face.
Set It and Forget It
After putting in the effort, you want your makeup to last through every Garba and Dandiya move. The final, and perhaps most important, step is to lock it all in. Hold a makeup setting spray about an arm's length away from your face and spritz it a few times in an 'X' and 'T' motion. This will help your makeup withstand sweat and humidity, keeping you looking fresh all night long. Allow it to air dry completely. For extra-long nights, you can also carry blotting papers to gently dab away any shine without disturbing your makeup.
