In a city known for its architectural marvels and luxurious spectacles, Dubai is about to add another extraordinary attraction. The famous Gold District is preparing a walkway with a 24-carat gold surface for visitors to walk on.
Paving the Way with Gold
Dubai is turning the age-old
saying 'streets paved with gold' into a literal reality. The Dubai Gold District has announced plans to open a pedestrian walkway made with 24-carat gold. This project, described as the first and longest of its kind in the world, is expected to be completed and opened to the public before the end of 2026, with officials indicating a launch within the next two months. Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, confirmed the project aims to offer residents and tourists a distinctive experience, allowing them to stroll along a literal golden path. While the exact length and cost have not been disclosed, the walkway is intended to be a permanent public attraction within the bustling market.
More Than Just a Path
The golden walkway is a strategic move to bolster Dubai's reputation as the 'City of Gold' and enhance its appeal as a top global tourist destination. The project is part of a broader effort within the Dubai Gold District to create unique attractions and experiences that draw international visitors. The announcement was made alongside the reveal of two new Guinness World Records set in the district for the world's heaviest and largest pair of gold earrings, signalling a concerted push to keep the area in the global spotlight. Officials state the walkway is designed to strengthen Dubai's position as a major hub for the international gold and jewellery trade by creating new, memorable experiences for visitors.
A Modern Twist on a Historic Hub
This shimmering new path is part of the larger Dubai Gold District, a massive development launched by developer Ithra Dubai in January 2026 to modernise and expand the area around the historic Deira Gold Souk. The Gold Souk has long been a cornerstone of Dubai's commercial heritage, but the new Gold District and its extension aim to elevate the experience. This redevelopment, known as the Deira Enrichment Project, blends the traditional charm of the old souk with modern infrastructure, including shaded walkways, better transport links, and over 8,000 parking spaces. The district consolidates the entire gold industry, from retail shops and wholesale offices to bullion traders and jewellery workshops, into a single, cohesive ecosystem with over 1,000 retailers.
Dubai's Penchant for the Spectacular
The 24nd carat gold walkway fits perfectly into Dubai’s portfolio of ambitious and eye-catching projects. The city has a well established reputation for creating landmark attractions that capture the world's imagination, from the towering Burj Khalifa to man made archipelagos like The World Islands. This project is less about simple infrastructure and more about branding and spectacle. It reinforces the city’s identity as a place where the impossible is made possible. By creating an attraction that is both a tribute to its trading legacy and a bold statement of modern luxury, Dubai ensures that its historic heart of commerce remains a vital and talked about destination for a new generation of tourists and shoppers.
