1. Malaysia: Visa-Free Until End of 2026
Malaysia has extended its visa-free entry program for Indian nationals all the way through December 31, 2026. This makes planning a trip to see the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur or explore the beaches of Langkawi incredibly straightforward. Indian passport
holders can enter Malaysia for tourism or business and stay for up to 30 days without any visa. However, this doesn't mean you can just show up. All foreign visitors, including those from India, must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online. This is a mandatory and free registration that must be done within three days prior to your arrival. When you arrive, be prepared to show your passport with at least six months of validity, a confirmed return flight ticket, and proof of accommodation.
2. Thailand: The Return of Visa Exemption
After a period of uncertainty, Thailand has confirmed that Indian passport holders will continue to benefit from visa-free entry. A previous plan to move India to a paid Visa on Arrival category was reversed in July 2026. As of late August 2026, the older, more generous 60-day visa exemption rule is still in effect because the new rules have not yet been published in the Royal Gazette. The approved new policy, which will take effect 15 days after publication, will grant a 30-day visa-free stay. For travellers, this means no visa fees and no need to apply for anything before you fly. However, you will need to fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before your trip. To ensure a smooth entry, always carry a passport valid for at least six months, proof of a return or onward journey, and evidence of accommodation.
3. Sri Lanka: Free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
Our island neighbour, Sri Lanka, has made it easier and cheaper for Indians to visit. While it's often described as 'visa-free', the correct term is a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Since May 2026, Indian citizens are eligible for a free 30-day tourist ETA, which even allows for double entry within that period. The key is that you must apply for this ETA online before you travel via the official government portal. Arriving without a pre-approved ETA could cause issues at immigration. The process is simple and, most importantly, the fee is waived for Indians. This policy makes impromptu trips to explore the tea country around Kandy or the historic fort in Galle more accessible than ever. As with any international travel, ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date and you have a confirmed return ticket.
4. Kenya: Go Visa-Free with an eTA
For those dreaming of a wildlife safari, Kenya has rolled out a welcome mat for tourists from all over the world, including India. As of January 2024, Kenya abolished the traditional visa system for all foreign visitors. Instead, travellers are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before their journey. The eTA system is entirely online, and you must apply and receive approval before you travel; there is no visa-on-arrival facility. The standard tourist eTA allows for a single-entry stay of up to 90 days. The process involves submitting documents such as your passport, a photo, travel itinerary, and accommodation booking confirmations online and paying a processing fee. This digital system has streamlined the arrival process, reducing queues and paperwork at the airport.
