The Mandovi Express (10103) is an excellent choice, departing from Mumbai in the morning and offering daytime views of the Goan leg of the journey. Other options include the Goa Express and the Amaravati Express. It's crucial to book your tickets well in advance, as these routes are extremely popular during the monsoon. Bookings can be made via the official IRCTC website or app. For the best views of Dudhsagar Falls, which lies on the stretch between Kulem and Castle Rock, try to secure a seat on the right side of the train when travelling from Kulem towards Castle Rock (southbound).

To make the most of your trip, consider booking a seat in a non-AC coach. This allows you to open the windows to feel the cool, misty breeze and truly immerse yourself in the sounds and smells of the rain-soaked landscape. Many travellers also enjoy standing by the open train doors for an unfiltered view, but extreme caution is advised. Always hold on tight and be aware of your surroundings. Pack waterproof bags for your electronics and some snacks and water for the journey. Konkan Railway operates a special monsoon timetable from mid-June to the end of October, which includes reduced train speeds for safety. While this might make the journey slightly longer, it enhances safety and provides more time to soak in the mesmerising scenery.
