The journey between Bengaluru's tech hub and Goa's sunny beaches is about to get a major upgrade. The Indian Railways has approved a new Vande Bharat Express that will connect the two popular destinations in just over 13 hours.
A Faster, More Direct Connection
The Railway Board officially
sanctioned the new Yesvantpur-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express on October 30, 2026. This service promises a significant improvement in connectivity, operating as a daytime chair-car train. The journey from Yesvantpur (Bengaluru) to Madgaon (Goa) is scheduled to take approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes. The return trip is slightly quicker, estimated at 12 hours and 55 minutes. This new express train will provide a much-needed direct and faster rail option for travellers who previously relied on overnight trains or buses, which often take considerably longer.
Route, Timings, and Schedule
The service will operate six days a week. Train number 26655 will depart from Yesvantpur at 7:35 am and arrive in Madgaon at 8:55 pm, running on all days except Wednesday. For the return journey, train number 26656 will leave Madgaon at 8:20 am and reach Yesvantpur at 9:15 pm, with no service on Thursdays. The route is designed to connect Karnataka's interior with its coastal belt before reaching Goa. It will have 12 key stops, including Hassan, Sakleshpur, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Murdeshwar, and Karwar, offering enhanced connectivity to these towns.
A Journey Through the Scenic Western Ghats
One of the most anticipated features of this new route is the journey itself. The train will travel through the picturesque Western Ghats, particularly the stunning section between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road. Passengers will be treated to panoramic views of verdant hills, dense forests, and valley bridges, making the travel experience a highlight of the trip. This scenic passage is made possible by the recently completed electrification of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru railway line, which was finished in December 2025. While the Vande Bharat trains are built for high speeds, safety restrictions in the ghat section will limit speeds to 30 kmph along a 55 km stretch.
What This Means for Travellers
The introduction of this Vande Bharat Express is a game changer for both tourism and regular commuters. It provides a comfortable and modern daytime travel option that bridges the gap between the two states efficiently. The new service will also replace the existing Mangaluru Central–Madgaon Vande Bharat service, which reportedly had low passenger numbers. While an official launch date and fare details have not yet been announced, the service is expected to begin in the third week of November 2026. Travellers interested in this new route should watch for official announcements from Indian Railways for booking information.
