A New Era of Connectivity
The Railway Board has officially approved the introduction of the Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express, marking a significant step in enhancing the rail network between southern Rajasthan and central Gujarat. This will be the first Vande Bharat service
to originate from Surat, a major commercial hub, and Gujarat's sixth premium train overall. The new service, operating as train numbers 26903/26904, replaces and extends the previous Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat, offering a longer and more direct connection. The launch is anticipated before the Navratri festival, catering to the expected surge in festive travel.
Route, Stoppages, and Timings
The train is scheduled to run six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. Departing from Surat at 6:10 AM, train 26903 is set to reach Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey, train 26904 will depart Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and arrive in Surat at 11:00 PM. The total journey time is expected to be approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes. The train will make nine commercial stops along its route at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar, providing crucial connectivity to these towns.
The Onboard Vande Bharat Experience
Passengers on the eight-coach train can expect the standard modern amenities that have made Vande Bharat services popular across the country. These include fully air-conditioned interiors, comfortable reclining seats, and large panoramic windows for scenic views. The train is equipped with automatic sliding doors, bio-vacuum toilets for improved hygiene, and a GPS-based passenger information system. Onboard catering, which typically includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks, is also a key feature of the Vande Bharat experience.
Expected Fares and How to Book
While official fares are yet to be announced, estimates based on similar Vande Bharat routes suggest that a ticket for the AC Chair Car could cost between ₹1,400 and ₹1,800. For the more premium Executive Chair Car, which offers wider, rotating seats and more legroom, fares could be in the range of ₹2,600 to ₹3,200. These prices may vary depending on catering choices and dynamic pricing. Bookings will be available through the official IRCTC website and mobile app, typically opening 60 days in advance.

It directly connects Surat, a powerhouse of the textile and diamond industries, with Udaipur, a world-renowned tourist destination famous for its lakes, palaces, and as a location for destination weddings.
