A Direct Appeal for Land
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has publicly requested assistance from the Uttarakhand government in acquiring land. In a direct social media post to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Pant explained that he has been trying for three years
to find a suitable plot to build a home and shift his base from Delhi to his native state. The cricketer described the process as a "nightmare" and asked the government for help to facilitate the purchase, making it clear he intended to buy the land and was not asking for it as a gift. This move signals his strong desire to reconnect with his home and contribute to the state's future.
A Vision for Cricket's Future
While building a personal home is a key motivation, Pant's ambitions extend to fostering the next generation of cricketers in Uttarakhand. His request for land is also reportedly tied to his long-held desire to establish a cricket academy. This initiative aims to provide aspiring young players from the hill state with the facilities and coaching they need to succeed at a national and international level. By investing back into the local sports infrastructure, Pant aims to create a lasting legacy that goes beyond his own celebrated career, giving back to the community that he hails from.
CM Dhami's Positive Assurance
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was quick to respond to the cricketer's appeal. In his reply, Dhami referred to Pant as the "pride of Uttarakhand" and commended his desire to return and contribute to his motherland. The Chief Minister assured Pant that he had already directed the concerned officials to look into the matter. He promised that they would contact Pant soon to provide all possible cooperation in accordance with state rules, signaling a green light from the highest level of the state government. This prompt and supportive response has been widely seen as a positive step towards making Pant's vision a reality.
A Son of the Soil
Rishabh Pant's connection to Uttarakhand runs deep. Born in Roorkee in the Haridwar district, his journey from a small town to international cricketing stardom is a source of immense local pride. In recognition of his achievements and his bond with the state, the government had previously appointed him as the state's brand ambassador to promote sports and public health among the youth. This official role has only strengthened his resolve to be actively involved in the state's development, making his request for land not just a personal matter but one that aligns with his public responsibilities.
From Personal Tragedy to Purpose
Pant's bond with his home state was tragically highlighted in December 2022 when he survived a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near Roorkee. The incident, which could have ended his career, saw an outpouring of support from across the state. The long and arduous recovery that followed has been one of sport's most inspiring comeback stories. That the life-altering event occurred as he was driving home to surprise his mother has added a layer of emotional significance to his desire to relocate permanently. His return to the state now is not just a homecoming, but a testament to his resilience and a new chapter of purpose.
